Yellow fogs done....
Well decided to do the yellow fog lights.
Here's what i did:
Put in Lamin-X yellow sheets over the lens.
Put in PIAA Crystal Ion bulbs (yellow and way too expensive, imho)
Anyways, it puts out a nice medium-deep yellow, just a little lighter than the fogs that Lexus uses....
Before you flame, I understand the look isn't for everyone. I like it because I'm used to cars in Europe which almost all have yellow fogs...
Here's the result:

Lexus uses a yellow interior cover over the bulb. I checked and not only is it $$ to get them, but I don't think they'll fit in our fog assemblies.
VMax - Before the PIAA bulbs came in I did the film with the regular bulbs, and it wasn't nearly as yellow....kind of looked like I just had sh1tty bulbs
With the PIAAs now it's REALLY yellow.
BTW VMax got the tint done, thanks for the help/info....posted a thread on the DC forum.

yeah I plugged one into my buddy's 2k1 max - they are still yellow, but not nearly as much. He didn't like the yellow film looks during the day, so he's just gonna put the bulbs in by themselves. Sorry I didn't have a camera with me to take a pic. I alreay had put the lamin-x on a few days before I got the bulbs (I just can't wait to do mods sometimes )
If you want to do just the bulbs, from what I have seen on friends' cars the Narva Golds put out a deeper yellow than the PIAA Ions - in retrospect wish i had gotten the Narvas.....

The yellow color looks good from those pics. Besides the looks of yellow fogs, they're way more functional than white light. Only thing is, the Lamin-X film looks like a$$ in the daytime.

I think they look ok in the day, kind of a european look, they remind me of my Lancia Integrale, which had yellow fogs......
Yeah, but I changed them for function. The white fogs were completely useless.

no I have 55w. The film was like 20 bucks or so....my friend does have the 85w narvas (but he also previously had the 55w ones) - both narvas are the same COLOR, just that the 85w is alot stronger in brightness...
was it worth it?
well, I like it so in my opinion - yes
but not everyone likes the fogs looking yellow in the day, so i guess it's all personal preference.

looks good irish. my previous car had the same setup as yours...regular headlights and yellow fogs.
i want to add silverstars in my headlights. do you know if silverstars make fogs? i'm getting tinted windows this weekend and maybe put clear bumper corners.

Irish: the maxima fogs come from the factory aimed straight down, and are therefore useless. You can aim them via a white adjuster **** on the back of the assembly. I adjusted mine, and now they are actually of some use during the rain/fog. (when you are adjusting them, block off your headlights so that you can see the beam pattern of the fogs better.
Also with the fogs that close to the ground, the color has no effect on how well you can see, but rather how well others can see you coming. Thats the reason that lexus did theirs that way. The best visiblilty comes from the most lumens (which is at 4350K). The yellows are closer to 3000. Also, the european cars that had yellow fogs had them at the same height as the headlights, and their yellow light was used to contrast the whiter headlight beams. Basically so the driver does not get as much glare right in front of the car and can see whats right there so as not to have an accident. Not to mention that he is more visible to oncoming traffic.

thanks for the info....I was wondering what the white thing was for on the light housing. I will have to try to aim them up sometime soon - as I would like to have the lights actually DO something other than look nifty.
My Lancia that I had in italy had yellow factory fogs mounted about the same place as they are on the maxima. BUT they were at least 85W....It got foggy there alot and I used them often (with headlights off completely).....That car, like most euro sedans, also had REAR fog lights (as even US-spec new Volvos do)....

The fact that they can be used independently of the headlights shows that they were intended for functionality. This is the case with most german cars. As is the rear fog light. The only issue that they run into is what jaguar does. The have 2 rear fogs, which look like brake lights.

When I converted my old Audi A4 to use 5500k HID bulbs in the projector housings, I also got some replacement fog lights. Everybody else got the while bulbs to match the color, but I wanted to be different with the yellow. The fog lenses were clear lenses, but the bulbs I put in were really yellow.
I have a hard time believing that the maxima lens doesn't facilitate the yellow look w/o film...

Anyway, Infiniti thought they would be and put 35w fogs in out cars instead of 55w. I currently have the 55w Ion crystal fogs (had to be modified) and they are not very bright. Is there a good way to bump the cars fog output to 55w or even 85w? Will 85 watts put off too much heat and melt the plastic housing?
I also may try aiming them a bit higher, and hopfully that will make them seem a little brighter and/or give me some more usable light.
