Cali Spec Owners
The fed-spec ECU would know nothing about the extra O2 sensors....But I doubt it is as simple as the ECU though....that is probably only one step in going to fed-spec emissions. Plus, getting the ECU would be no easy task either.
I am working on a solution for the lower performance of the CA emissions vehicle right now. I have already purchased a 1995-2000 front-side (or left hand side) exhaust manifold that I will use when I purchase a 2000 Federal spec'ed y-pipe. With this combination I will be able to remove both pre-cats in the stock y-pipe. I have relocated the downstream O2 sensors to after the main cat already, so that isn't a problem anymore. As soon as I can afford the y-pipe, I'll do the install and let everyone know how it went.
This should get rid of all of the extra restrictions of a CA emissions car compared with a federal one, except for what the ecu is doing. I am hoping that the ecu is using the same timing & A/F ratio tables that the federal car is. If this is the case, then the problem is solved.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see.......
