hehe...what they don't know can hurt them
But seriously, it's all good. No need to go and start a flame war with them....it's not worth it. The TL/CL-S is a bada$$ car. It would beat an auto max soundly, but would be a great race against a stick....

Opinions are like a@#holes....
Everybody's got one.
If you compare numbers on the SE and the TL-S at various car mag sites around the internet you'll see almost identical #'s on both 0-60 and 1/4 mile. It would be a great race and come down to driving ability IMHO.
Now, if you happened to choose a auto tranny on your Max...I wouldn't race any TL-S unless you've "upgraded" your Max under the covers.

I definately would say a CL-S would out run any max. A TL-S should get a auto Max and it would a good stick driver that would win. (we all know who has a stick, right?) But has anyone noticed that the CL-S weighs in at 3500 lbs? That is 250-300 over the Max. Power to weight... Not to mention it's 7000 US more? The TL-S should come in around the same. It's not as obvious as it looks.
But it all comes down to talk is cheap. Let's get it on and run what you brung.
Any -Ss in the my area have an open challenge.

Any one calling the 2k max a piece of sh*t is probably narrow minded and can't think outside his brain. I just had to respond after browsing through all that chattering
about who can out handle, out accelerate and out beat each
other(from their board)... Lest not forget, max@222hp and tl-s@260. Yeah, tl-s has 40 more hp...but what an expensive freakin 7k 40hp!! And with comparisions being so close, I say adding 7k's worth of go fast goodies to any 2k max (ae or 5sp) will kick some butts...
TL-S forum
I've been reading stuff on that forum. Heh, the people on the TL (non Type-S) forum saw this coming. There's a thread somewhere on there about a week ago predicting some TL-S owners bad mouthing other cars, including the regular TL. This happened with the CL-S too...thought they could beat everything in the world. So just because part of the forum is bad mouthing other cars doesn't mean the whole forum is bad. The TL forum is pretty good.
As for the TL-S vs. Maxima debate, both are good cars. Here comes the personal opinion: The Maxima's styling is weird (especially the rear lights), but it still has that aggressive/sporty look. The TL is classy, but too conservative and many cars out there look like it (Accord, Galant, etc).
As for interior, I would have to give it to the TL. The TL has a sleeker and better looking interior. Maxima's interior is good too. But hey, the TL is an "entry-level luxury sedan" (although Honda calls it a sports sedan in their brochure), Maxima is a sports sedan.
As for engine, I don't know much about the TL-S, but I do know the Maxima is more fun to drive mainly due to it's torque.
So who wins? I dunno. Buy whatever you like. Both cars are in different classes. I30 and TL (non-S) would be a better match.

i guess this could only mean that they are intimidated by us!!!
so, what? they have more horses than us and it's more expensive car than a maxima. if you have more hps than the other car, you'd better win. it's easy to beat someone driving a less powerful car. you gotta beat them in skill...
and of course, you can't win'em all...

Most of the time I was driving my car the pedal on metal, of course the guy had more power for acceleration, but when you hit 200km an hour this is becomming another type of race.
Anyway I did the ride between city in 4 hours, it is known to be a 5 1/2 to 6 hours ride. He looked like a king of guy that liked to smoke you on the 0-60, but have no ***** for long race. I was decided to show him that the best car & driver will win. To some point he was following me, but I had the guts of driving my car between 170KM to 230KM for hours. Let me tell you the Accura guy was really upset seing that I was ready to blow my engine to stay in front of him or to stick in his ***, cuz he kind of look affraid to ride in the high rpm, and when I lost him he had to stop cuz he had a flat tire, engine is only one components of the car... he he he.
If you compare both car, the Accura cost much more, take the
10K difference, buy an S/C and refine the suspension & handling, and it's bye bye ACURA.
Power is something, but guts, skills and heart is something that doesn't come when you buy a car.
Anyway cant wait to add an S/C to my car and smoke any ACCURA TL or CL.
Cheers

Anyway he couldn't imagine me Maxima driver having ***** & guts. Not to feel less guilty of breaking the law that day, I was alone in the car and I would never raced like this with someone else in the car with me or in a traffic situation.
It's been 10 years since I had a speeding ticket, these are my secrets ( never had a radar detector ):
When I drive I am always very concentrate, never eat or use the phone while driving, cellular's always off in the car. I always look far in front of me and regularly check in every mirror, there is many situations that can be predicted, we just need to observe, so our brain is focussing on one thing. When I drive, I drive ! One thing that help a lot for not getting caught by cops on radar, is to use other car as an obstacle between their radar and your car, but you still have to see or anticipate the radar at a fairly good distance ( sometimes we know where they hide ) but for this you have to be focuss on observing the road and need an almost perfect vision.
For the radar to hit you, it has to be clear between the radar and the target and when the traffic is heavier, confusion can be in the cops minds as to figured out who's speeding specially if he cant see you visually cuz the radar can hit you from far if the road is clear. Then if your quick enough to see it, you can brake and move quickly behind someone else. I manage to save a lot of tickets that way, unless it is just luck ( I have doubt about this one ), otherwise these are my only explanations.
Perhaps I shouldn't talked about it( me and my big mouth ) but after reading the s**t and arrogancy that was told on some Accura forum, I decided t let it go. Dont worry for the futur I no longer travel and race like this.
Cheers

Price
Actually that's not an apples to apples comparison. The TL comes with everything standard except for the navigation system (3k). TL has leather, Bose stereo, HIDs, etc. For an equal comparison, you'll need to get a fully loaded Maxima SE (27k), which will make it about a $3000 difference (Maxima being cheaper of course). Take out 1k for the HIDs and it is now a 2k difference. As for the TL-S, that thing is around 6k more than a fully loaded Max SE.
These aren't exact prices, but they're pretty close. For some reason, the I30 costs more than the TL.

What I love is the ignorance of some of the people on that site regarding drag racing. This is what one of the guys said in response to the posting of a time slip from a 2k 5spd Max that ran 15.5-15.6 with a 60 ft. time of high 2.4s and 90.xx mph:
[i]
looks like it's runnin' the 1/4 in about 15.5 to 15.6. CL-S owners are consistently running stock CL-S's at 14.9 - 15.1. The driver of the Max AE had a GOOD reaction time -- below 0.6 is fairly good, but I'm sure one of you Maxima rodders are gunna tell me you consistenly get 0.4 -> 0.5 right? [\i]
Sorry charlie - reation time has nothing to do with 1/4 mile time. No offense to the max driver but he clearly needs some practice. His 60ft time was way high. He could cut a couple of tenths off his 1/4 mile with a reasonable 60 ft time. Also, it appears he didn't know his shift points or was shifting way slow. He should have been running 93.5 or so stock mph.
What it does demonstrate is that a 5spd can easily lose to a -s due to driver error.
I think the cl-s is a nice car. I really like the dual exhaust. But the max is definitely a better value IMO.

Still, reaction time doesn't matter to 1/4mi elapsed time.
.500 is the difference between the last yellow light and the green light and is considered perfect. It is calculated beginning at the point the last yellow is lit on the tree and ending at the time that your front wheel trips the sensor at the line. Once your front wheel trips the sensor, your reaction time has been calculated. At the same time, your elapsed time begins - obviously your e/t ends when you cross the sensor at the end of the track.
So, your reaction time could be several seconds and yet you still could run a 15.0.
However, at the track, the winner of the race will be the person with the lowest combination of reaction time and elapsed time. I might run a 14.9 but get off the line in .8 for a total time to the end of the track of 15.7. You might run a 15.1 but with a rt of .5 for a total of 15.6. You would win because you would cross the finish line .1 sec ahead of me - and even though my time on the screen would be 14.9 and yours 15.1.
Obviously, the acura guy has no clue about drag racing.
By the way, thanks to madmax2k for much of the above education!!!
