Engine Cover Logo

I have recently purchased my 03 and noticed a couple of odd things under the hood and am just wondering if these things are normal:

1) The chrome Nissan logo on the engine cover appears to be delaminating from the cover. The chrome is still fully attached, it just looks noticably "bubbled" from the plastic.

2) The aluminum on the engine looks corroded. Basically the entire engine, except for the intake manifold, looks like it has a white corrosion layer that does not come off with engine cleaner. It doesnt look like anything seriously wrong, it just looks weird compared to other engines.

For the cover, I am thinking that I should be able to get a new one under warranty - assuming this is not normal.

thx

1)Normal. Occurs from engine heat. You may be able to get it replaced under warranty (others have).

2)Normal.

Ditch the engine cover, all it does is help the engine heat soak while you drive hard....

Hey i remember this thread from a while back.

Was this proven to help performance? IE, did it really impact the heat soaking situation?

It's likely a battery acid got on the engine. Probably the previous owner had a battery that exploded in the engine bay.

That sounds normal. My friggin chrome emblem on the engine cover is bubbling too. I plan on palm sanding the entire engine cover and painting it a different color.

That could play a part, except that the entire engine looks this way, ie even on the opposite side of the battery and the painted surfaces/rubber components look fine. I supposed to meet up with a friend tomorrow who has an 02. Will do a direct visual comparo to settle this.

Yup, mine is doing that too. The dealer ordered me a new one (under warranty) so I'm waiting on that...
