2002 vs 2001 Dilemma

2002 Dilemma

I have been shopping for 2001 SE 5s and 2002 SE 6s. Found both, the problem that one had is the cracked windshield bold tires (2002) w/t 27.000 on it and the (2001) has very skeptical mileage of 15.000 ONLY. I am going to see it.

Both cars full load

Prices: 2002 SE 6 speed purple white w/t cracked windshield and bold tires at 27.000 miles. The rest is perfect!
$ 17600 + tax (plus I asked for new front rotors and pads and they are changing windshield for free).

Or 2001 SE 5 speed black, not sure if the looks are corresponding to the mileage w/t 15.000 miles.
$ 15300 + tax

Has any one ever change windshield on 2001-02 Maxima?
Shell I be paranoid about the fact that is not replaced by Nissan JAPAN?
Does any one ever have any problems with replaced windshield?

Please let me know….

Windshield replacement should be no problem if done by a competent individual. I think however that you will really want the increased power of the 02 vs. the 01 but purple??? are you sure??

Mine has had a .5" crack in it for the past year. Stuff flies from trucks you know...

Windshields are under 200$, that including installation. I would go with the 2002. Personally though, I would not go with either car. Bald tires at 27k (really depends what you mean by bold) is a sign of rough driving or a lot of city driving (neither are desirable..). Post photos of you can.

PS. There are no purple maximas...

Got it!

Well, thank you all for your contributions to by the Maxima car. I am going for 2002 pearl white 6 speed.
Oh yes, and the reason the windshield was racked, is because of a rock. And they did some preventative job to stop the crack from spreading by drilling a small hole in fist layer of triplex. It stopped the crack from going, but the guy who used to own the car is 45, and never took sharp corners, so I believe it might crack. So I have requested to change the windshield. (They will do it for free).

Thank you,

P.S. spelling mistake on color it is not purple it is PEARL white.

Simple mistake I often confuse "Purple" with "Pearl White" when I type them out.

I'd have probably done the 02, but it's a tough call. Windshield is no problem, but I'd want new tires, since a set of 4 will cost a bit. You'll need $300 to replace just the fronts.

15k miles on that 01 could have been done I suppose. However, I'd only buy that one if they could document frequent oil changes. If they were changing every 3-4k only then they only changed the oil every 8 months, which isn't realy enough.

02 over the 01 power is worth quite a lot

Bald tires in 27K miles...that was driven relatively hard!!
Stock tires will last twice that on average. I have 36K miles on my 02 Max and there is probably 50% tread left (though 80% of the cars driving is on the highway).

And there is NO dilemma in which year to get. The 2000/2001 Maxes are slow. The 02/03's are the fastest made. Ante up the extra and get the 02/03...3.5 liter, it's a no brainer.

Unless you are planning to S/C I'd get the 2k2......

If you get the 2k1 you can S/C it relatively cheap and with the money you could have spent EXTRA on the 2k2 u can buy that S/C......

Go with the 02 for sure, you'll be happy you did. Even if it was driven a little hard by the previous owner. It's a Maxima - it can take it!

72 What tires are you running on?? 36K miles with 50% tread left is quite remarkable in my view.

I believe it is true.

Once again, thank you all!

The tires on the Max are not even original, they 215/50 Dunlop.
I asked why the hell did you change the tires on this car?
The replay was “The original worn out too fast”
Then I asked; how the hell did you get the 2 set of tires almost bold?
The guy said, “They are low quality”

But the car looks clean, no repaints, I checked the entire car. Drives well, no engine detonation, nothing at all to say that it was pushed or any sign abuse whatsoever.

Even the hood and mirrors have protector on them (kind of the same color as the car, very thin layer of a tape). Lights have protection as well.

The previous owner is 45 has a child and looks normal.

Go figure man why the freaking tires were changed on this car and it only has 27.000 clicks. (He had it leased), I am buying it of him, I just don’t believe in leasing sweet cars like this and saying good-bye after. It is no freaking KIA.

Ok guys drive safe but fast!
