80w vs. 55w H3 Fog light bulbs

Will an 80w H3 bulb do any harm to the harness or wiring of the fog light assembly? The stock H3's are 55w.

Thanks! I'll do that. I don't need any extra headaches. My buddy had these laying around and I was wondering if they would work. Where can i get the best deal on the PIAAs?

I'm assuming the Super Plasmas are the closest match the HID's, right?

You can always upgrade your harness to use higher wattage bulbs.

Yes, it's the best match. I'll try to take pics of it tonight to show you what I'm talking about.

Do you know how to upgrade the harness? I accidently bought 85w PIAA H3's instead of the 55w ones off the internet. I'd rather upgrade the harness (if it is not a pain in the ****) than deal with returning the bulbs for the 55w. Thanks.

Just use the 85w ones, the h3 harness wont melt like many of the plastic headlight plugs because its just a metal female connector. The housings will get hotter though, and there is a possibility that if the glass gets a splash of cold water after being on for a while, they could crack.

Upgrading your harness is more of a PITA than exchanging your bulbs for the correct ones. Don't run higher wattage bulbs, why would you risk it? I bought an upgraded harness for my headlights when I had the 97 Max since I had higher wattage crap bulbs. I never installed the harness, but rather bought the correct wattage PIAA Xtreme White bulbs (but then I got HIDs).

Anyway, either return the bulbs you bought for the correct ones OR eBay the wrong ones and buy the correct ones.

Biotch.

It might be easier if you exchange your bulbs

Guess I'll be buying the right bulbs. Anyone want to buy the PIAA H3 85w Star White bulbs that I have? Not only did I get the wrong wattage, I got Star White and not Xtreme White. I'm such a noob when it comes to bulbs, everything else I can handle...

from my research optauto has the cheapest piaa super plasmas and xtreme whites but thats if you are also buying other things like piaa wipers (etc) because the shipping is pretty high....

55w super plasmas heats up my fog lights like crazy. Burnt my hands touching the damn fog light housing before... messed up!
