Help In purchasing 5th Gen
I keep seeing all these posts about how people got 2k1's for like 25 grand, and how the year end sales are supposed to be great.. My local dealers want 29 grand for almost all 2000 se's and gle's. Right now I have a fully loaded black/black leather 97 SE but im looking for a 2000. What i'm looking for pretty much if a fully loaded 2000 Black SE. My friend got a base model SE (no 17 inch, no leather, no bose, no sunroof.. etc) for 21 grand, but sine my 97 is fully loaded im spoiled. Anywho.. how much should I be paying MAX for a fully loaded 2000 SE, and what should I be trying to get it for? And does anyone know any good NJ, NY, PA, nissan dealers? Thanks!

The difference
The real difference right now between the 2000 price and the 2001 price is about $200.
So you're better off getting a 2001 just for the resell value alone (in 3 years a 2001 will be worth more--and the difference will be more than $200).
I bought my 2001 Max GLE for $25,900 with just about EVERYTHING (no meridian package). Calculating the cost based on a 2000's dealer invoice (I don't know what 2001 is), that would mean that I bought the car at about $500 over invoice. Never pay more than $1000 over invoice. How close to invoice you get depends on where you live and the volume of sales at the dealer.
My local dealer also had 2001 SE with the MSRP sticker above $29k. The reason for this is that they have the leather package. A similarly equipped GLE will be less because leather, bose, etc, is standard. Adding leather to an SE or a GXE is like a $2000 option (to the MSRP anyway). Because you can't get leather without getting the Bose system or the climate control.
If you're not dealing with the financial manager at the dealership, he's only allowed to sell you the car at a ****ty price. Anything that's a GOOD price is going to need a little talk with the financial manager (or someone who has that authority). You can usually tell a sales lackey from someone who actually has authority at the dealership. So when your sales lackey gives you a figure, say "You're going to have to do better than that". That'll make him go consult the financial manager (or someone who can authorize a cheaper price). Then he'll come back with a figure that's probably near or at $1000 above invoice. That's when you say "Well, that's better. I'll tell you what, knock $500 off that price and I'll buy the car". A quick talk with the person in charge and he'll come back to shake your hand. Of course, every dealer is different, and you can change your numbers based on your better judgement. If the dealer won't budge on thier ****ty price, go someplace else. TELL them you're going to a different dealer. They sometimes cave on that one, but not usually.

I paid $19,100 for my 2k Maxima GXE. I even made the dealer pay for tinted windows, floor mats and $250 of free gas. It also has $800 desert protection package, which I think is just scotchguard or something silly like that. Anyways I was very pleased with the price. After the mods I have listed below, I should have better performance than a SE for a few grand less.

29,000?! I bought my 2000 SE, Conf/Conv. ,cloth, auto, w/17" wheels for $26,000 last October when they were hard to get.
Check Edmunds.com, Kelly Blue Book kbb.com and see what they say. Don't waste your money on the Bose, it severely lacks in low-end.
just my 2-cents, good luck.

$10, 200 Us
I just bought an 2000 GLE with every opition possible for $10,200 US. It is black on black leather with 60,000 miles. I don't know if it makes that big of a difference that I bought it Canada, but that's what I paid.
lithuimax is so right. My o3 SE TE no leather no nav was right at $23,500 before sales tax last May. Granted the $2k rebate/dealer cash was in effect. Show these guys you are so smarter than letting yourself get ripped off. My wifes cousin owns a huge Dodge dealer and he tells me stories that would put a politition into cardiac arrest!
Personally I think the price is extremely high. Over here in Colorado Springs up to 80 miles away. They are selling 03 max from $22900 all the
way down to 02 at $17995. These are SE's I would rethink about
paying that much for any max. Put two or more dealers up against
each other and see if you can get a better deal. Good luck...

How does something this old pop up as the newest topic?
