Anyone Added Seat Memory Yet?

From what I hear, adding the seat memory to the '02-'03 models (maybe '00-'01 too?) is a relatively simple case of buying the switch and hooking it (wiring harness needed) to the controller which is supposedly already under the dash.

Sounds easy enough, but has anyone actually done it, and if so, how easy/hard was it?

Well the actual switch for the seat memory is in the drivers door panel. You'd have to get another driver door panel or cut the one you have for that to fit.

I don't have the switch for it, that's the point of my question. If the electronics (buried under dash) are in fact already there, it seems like a pretty easy job to add the switch and the wiring. I'm trying to find out if anyone who originally didn't have it, has been able to add the functionality, and how hard was it to do?

3Pedals emailed me about this awhile ago, and i have yet to actually do it

but the truth of the matter is that yes, it IS as simple as that. me and daveb started looking at all different model cars, those fully loaded, etc... and checking otu part numbers. the seat module is exactly the same. there is a seperate plug for memory seat. based on what we've read, all you need is the switch, and then wire it from there tot he module (under the glove). problem is that the wires obviously plug into a harness. THAT is the problem. unless you can rig your own harness, or if it's one of those universal harnesses, then that's where most of the work is involved. other thant aht though, yes, it is a straight bolt on job. the part is $39 shipped for the switch

Wow, I would have figured it being more expensive than that. I guess there isn't any sensors or whatnot to determine where the seat is?

the only existing sensor is the one that when you put the car in park, or whatever that function is, the seats moves. and you can't adjust while the car is in motion. but for 6speeds, since we never go to "park", that sensor never activates, so that just voids itself out.

correct and inccorect, on the 6 speed instead of the "Park" feature, the seat memory only works when the Emergency Brake is activated, otherwise it is disabled

what would be cool is to have the seat movement feature that the autos have enabled

since i had the memory feature i also had the button for the auto entry movement, but it doesnt work in 6 speeds, would be cool when you open the door the seat slides back all the way

Now this would be great! I wouldn't end up with my knees in my chest after my wife drives the car.

Polo how many wires in the harness, any clue? Wonder if it could also be done on my wifes Murano? Does it show on the CD manual, will have to take a look.

it's all in the cd. you just have to "decrypt" the diagrams. it spans a few pages, but at the end all you need to know is one thing. the plug sends wires to the main seat module. those that don't have memory seats simply have no plug in the module whereas those with memory seats do. how many wires, i forgot, but it's not a lot. like 4-8 wires.

I think that you cant do it without more cost.

Studied my car and the service manual.

Memory seats have 5 wires to each motor, 3 are for the encoders.

Mine has only 2. Encoders would have to be necessary to tell the logic where the position is.
It is possible that guys with leather seats may have the encoders.

In industrial controls encoders are the expensive part, so it makes sense that in the world of cars they left them off to save costs if you did not get the option.

Hang on now. Does this mean you can't add the seat memory function at all, or that you can add the memory function, but would not have the "seat slide" function for when you park and have the seat slide all the way back for getting out?

I'm not sure from reading the posted TSB.

Sure you can add it. But it was originally thought that it was a $39 switch plus some wiring. But for memory you need the motors with the encoders so the cost of doing it probably went up X 4+ and you got to figure out a lot of wiring.

For the seat to go back when you power down, just wire in a timer relay 12v dc 1-10 second adjustable $50 perhaps. This would be capable of bringing it back when you power down and forward when you power up, it wont be exact because you are not using encoders but it should be fairly close.

The actual auto position option or my relay idea?
3 pedals says the computer part of it is already there on a 2k2 but not really sure on the 01.
