i've got 33,700 miles on my 2K and wanted to change my spark plugs. any recommendations? please include approx. price if possible. thanks

 

NGK BKR5ES-11 or BKR5E-11. Both are regular copper plugs which runs about $2.25 a piece.

 

NGK, however I got the platinum b/c I'm bling bling. :P

i have used the iridium ones and she started back firing. stick with the oem replacements. i think they are 6+change

 

isnt it a little to soon to change your plugs? the platinum should last for 60k miles.

 

That's the reason why I stay away from iridium plugs. Heard many people having issues.

 

whoa..60K? is this true? i just saw a banner at autozone saying that spark plugs should be changed every 30K. are the stock ones supposed to last for 60k? thanks for the input.

 

plats typically last longer than copper. the trade off is copper is much cheaper and burns hotter. my plats had some life in them at 32k but for the 1.50 i paid for the coppers, i dont mind replacing them once a year or 15k miles.

 

Had 65k miles on my OEM Platinums and they still had life in them. Stick with OEM plugs, if your not modding internally your engine your wasting your money on Iridium.

If you like waisting your money, throw some this way, i'll put it to good use!!!


By the way, from the factory NGK PLats run about $11 bucks a pop, at least at my local dealership.

 

you may have just misquoted but i never said anything about iridium. in my opinion, it would be possible to get 25k miles out of the coppers. so putting in plats is a waste of money when you think you can coppers every 25k @1.50 or plats every 50k @ 8-9 bucks. id rather have a newer, hotter burning plug for less money.

 

you dont have to wait until 60K. i first changed them at 66K. next was at 90k. but i will stick with the oem ones.

Yeah I think it's way too early for you to change your plugs. I waited until 54k, and went with NGK V-Power copper plugs, even though I could have waited until 60k or 65k.

Yeah Ammi, I believe that most new cars today come with platinum plugs.

 

2j2,2k3 Maxes come with Platinum plugs.... for you 2k,2k1 Maxes it may be cheaper to use copper and if it works , thats great. But for us 2k2, 2k3 maxes swapping out plugs every 15-25k miles would be a pain because of how the 3.5 intake manifold is setup. Our cars are much more difficult and time consumming to repalce plugs than you 3.0 owners. If i had your engine setup i might consider a copper plug as well. But for best cases, like i said before if your not modifying internally in your engine where a hotter or colder spark is nessary, then stick with OEM plugs for your car.

kinda cheap place to get em, but 30 is a lil soon. i changed mine out at about 66k to ngk coppers

 

iridium ones --> they are a bit expensive but well worth the money.... they will run you about 12 bucks a plugs

 

is it very hard to change all the plugs yourself in a 3.0 2k max? I guess I could look myself, but I'm at work, and on the forum, this would still be faster.....thanks all.

 

not hard at all. just need the right tools. i know there is a 5th gen write up but all i had my first time was this 4th gen writeup credit going to sprintmax.

 

30 min job for me. cylinder 5 is kinda hard to get to the coil and plugs. it will be much easier to take off the bolts to the bracket that holds throttle and crusie cable.

 

Replaced my 2K1 plugs yesterday from delaer OEM ones $11 each. Some were worn at 44K. So I figured I would do them all. Also my plugs looked as if I was running rich, black and red deposits, any ideas as to how to adjust somewhwere? I thought the ECM took care of that.

 

The best way i know to make it run leaner is to put an injen intake on your car .

One question I have: is it necessary to upgrade plugs if you SC the car?

 

i used the NGK platinum plugs i bought from the stealer for $11 a pop. make sure you check the gaps before putting them in. it took me about 1 1/2 hrs... first time that i've ever done plugs. be careful w/ the screws that hold down your ignition coils. i dropped the 3 screws (that held the back 3 ignition coils down) in my engine bay . im lucky i had spares

 

Here is a dumb question.. but I gotta ask. How do you know when your spark plugs are bad?

My car when I start it up. . . usually i crank the key and right away it starts up. Lately i've noticed that at times after I crank the key, it doesn't start, it'll sound like its firing up but then after I let go of the key it won't start.. then after i try it the 2nd time, it starts up. It's always the 1st time it does that. Could this be that my spark plugs needs to be replaced?
