Quicksilver you were right!!!!!
I tried your method of shifting and the car accelerated much faster than normal.
The only thing that spooked me was that when you shift from 1st to 2nd , the revs fly up and hit the revlimiter like you missed a gear.from 2nd to 3rd it delayed a second then caught without no problem!
I the tried it again but this time instead of shifting at 6XXX i shifted at 5800 rpm and it still hit the rev limiter , that delay from 1st to 2nd is slightly to long so the revs hit the limiter. Have you ever lifted off the gas then shift into 2nd then get back on it like you were shifting a manual?
That VB mod maybe needed for better execution of auto shifts. What do you think?

Yeah, there seems to be some differences with the shifting from 1-2 on the auto 3.5 Maximas. Can't say why, but I can tell you that just leaving it in drive will only net you times in the low to mid 15's in the 1/4 mile, but shifting manually can get you to the mid to upper 14's (once you master the timing).

I thought are cars run mid to high 14's for stock?

I also tried starting off with leaving the slap shifter in 3rd rather than 4th (or od) and it did shift much different.
Normally leaving it in D and flooring it, the shift from 1st to 2nd happens around 6200 but the shift from 2nd to 3rd takes place at 5800.
But when I started in 3rd the shift from 1st to 2nd still took place at 6200 but it then held 2nd all the way to redline at which point I let off the gas and it shifted into 3rd. I don't know how high it would have wound out in 2nd but I generally get 200K out of my cars by keeping them below the red line LOL

I got my best time listed below by just leaving it in drive and on the launch feathering it for a sec then gunning it. I got 3 14.6*'s in a row, I got better times by just leaving mine in drive!

Well, you guys are both dead wrong. My tranny is in great shape, and is taken to the track whenever possible. I have no shifting problems, no lag, no slipping...nothing but perfect shifts time after time. And I've already (as well as every other person who has raced the 2002-2003 Max) proved that shifting manually gets you better times by at least .3-.4 seconds, if not more...
Couple this shifting method with the "drop resistor mod" and your tranny will shift better and faster (at the track-due to higher tranny line pressure) and still do anything you need for day to day driving. How else do you guys think that we auto folks are racing?

That still doesn't shift you at the limiter, and the drop resistor mod should only be used for WOT shifting (aka-at the track)...

coupled with the drop resistor mod i can see how this would improve overall times. i have it installed to activate under WOT and can tell a difference. but without the drm i'm sure it becomes more difficult to manually shift an auto and get better accel than if you let computer shift. the delay and slipping between gears at the higher revs leaves a lot of room for mistake. i suppose with the drm this is eliminated but i honestly haven't tried it.

Believe me, you need to. You're missing at least .2-.3 seconds off what COULD be your 1/4 mile time
