Tinting dot matrix in rear window

I had my windows tinted in February. The rear one came out terrible because of the dot matrix along the top of the window. When I went back to the place a week after I had them done the guy told me to let it dry for a few months and it would get better. Now four months later it looks just as bad and he says there's nothing they can do about it. Plus, if I want to get it done over I'd have to pay. Has anyone else had a problem tinting the rear window or is the guy at the tinting place full of s**t?

The tinting place is bs. They did it wrong and are supposed to fix it.

BTW, I don't think the dot matrix should be a problem.

I knew he was full of it! Is there anything I can do to fix it myself or do I have to have them redo it? What kinda solution do they put on it? What's a ziebart? Sorry about asking so many questions...

Also, what's even more screwed up is that my dad has an I35 which is supposed to be the same as the Maxima and the same place did his tints and his came out perfectly! And the guy is trying to tell me that every car with dot matrix comes out differently.

You will always have some bubbling in the dot matrix beacuse it is raised, but it shouldent be too bad.

You can only tell on mine if you are within a few inched. You could have a vinyl piece put up there, but they have to cut out the old tint and it may screw up your defroster or radio antena.

If they did do a sh!tty job they should have a warrantee and you should go raise hell!

Had mine done in March and I knew the Dot Matrix strip could cause problems but it came out pretty good. If you get right on top of the rear window you can tell that there is a slight difference but you really have to be looking for it. My radio reception sucks now but that's a whole different subject.

my dots are completely tinted over and only took a couple of days to dry, they didnt use any special glue or anything, they did however use a hat gun to melt the tint a bit so it would form over the dots

hope that helps

Mine is tinted up to the dot matrix. The install guy said they didn't always turn out the best and he just didn't like doing them.

mine is tinted up the dot matrix recently I am experiencing some slight bubbling as well. Just the way it goes, you can notice it from the outside as much. since it isnt that noticeable only to the perfectionist like myself. I try not to think about it.

Same here, my dot matrix wasn't tinted and my 18% was tinted right up to it and it looks great. I don't think you're suppose to tint the dot matrix.

Does anyone have a picture of what it looks like tinted up to the dot matrix. Because the tinting guy said he could remove the part that's on top of it and just leave the rest of the tint as is. Hopefuly that doesn't f%$k up my rear window dofroster and radio antena though.

As for my tint. I wouldnt mind so much if it was the same all over but in some places is sticks better to the dot matrix than it does in others and it looks like there are streaks in my rear window. You can't see it that well from outside but from the inside I see it anytime I check my rearview mirror and it annoys the hell out of me everytime!

My dot matrix is not tinted either. I just didn't want to risk it.

spaking of tint, I have had my max tinted 30% all four windows for almost two years, and never had a problem from the police. Yesterday I got a ticket for having ticket in Manalapan, NJ on rt. 9.
Looks like NJ really needs money and is starting to reenforce the front window tint law.

I don't know about NJ but here in NY the legal limit is 70% for the fronts and I'm pretty sure there is no law about the rears.

I think I'm gonna go ahead and have him remove the tint over the dot matrix and see how that looks. Worst case I'll go somewhere else and have someone do it over again. Thanks a lot guys for all your help. I would still really like to see a pic of what it looks like from the inside and out with the tint over the dot matrix removed. Thanks in advance.

I'm thinking of doing 40 front and 18 in the rear what do you guys think ? Friend is hooking me up with a free tint job- hes payn for it. I'm having Ziebart do it also. In IL its illegal to have fronts tinted, I was thinking 40 would be little darker than OE but still ok.. or should I do 50 % to not risk a ticket ?

I'd definitely go with the 40% if not darker. You don't want to have too much of a difference between the fronts and the rears. Mine have a 15% difference and I like it. I actualy have gotten pulled over for speeding and the cop didn't say anything about the tints. I guess as long as you don't try to be a wiseass they won't nail you for it.

Couldn't you remove the dot matrix before going tinted? I think a light rubbing compound and a few hours of borring work should do the trick... wherefore is that dot matrix anyway? Never got that figured.

If it was a reputable place they will take care of you. I had mine done here in south jersey and the place did a great job. The owner called me and told me about the matrix problem and told me one of 2 things they could do. First, just tint the back window UP TO the dot matrix and not over it and on the outside it would look fine, but on the inside if you looked out the window you would see a very bright spot at the top. But what we ended up doing was adding the vinyl strip on the outside to cover up this bright spot and I can say its very good...I didnt get any colors or anything, just black to blend in with the tint, turned out great. This would be my suggestion. Good luck
