5th Gen Subwoofer

Did all 5th Gens come with a factory subwoofer? Or was it an option? If it didn't have it, is it possible to get a package shelf from a car that did have the option and use it? Or will a hole in the sheetmetal need to be cut?

Thanks

I'm not looking to get anything. In fact, I don't even have a 5th gen yet. I'm looking for one.

Thanks though!

save your money and why dont you just get an aftermarket 10"? you can get more bass for less money...plus a 10" in a single ported box sounds great and isnt that heavy nor will it take up much space...just my .02

I'd go with afternarket, but I don't want to take up *any* space. The factory sub location is fine. I have a JL Audio Stealthbox in my I30 now and even that takes up valuable trunk space. Right now, with just the Stealthbox, I can only fit two golf bags in there. I want to be able to put four so that we take only car to go out.

On a side note, are there any good 8" free air subs out there?

put a free air sub in there if you want to save space or get some nice components and amplify them. or get both.

yeah the rattle could be fixed with some dynamat, there is a how to on studman's website, i did it, perfect sound, no rattle even with 2 12's.....the bose one is the best opion in terms of NO space consumption at all, as long as you dynamat, if you dont it sounds nasty.....there arent a lot of free air subs out there that would even fit in that 8in sub whole....the only one that is good is hte JL audio on L7 8in, i think.....i dunno how it sounds free air.....

also yeah, ill sell my amp, sub, and bose speakers if someone is interested, ill take them out of my car as soon as i can for a resonable price, everything is in perfect condition.... PM me if interested.

well any aftermarket sub will be better than the bose one.....but it costs more, plus you'll most likely need to make the back panel stronger as the magnet on aftermarket subs are MUCH larger and heavier, like i said before the only sub that is worth it would be the JL W7 8in......my 2 cents......and dynamat is the cheapest way, and the best way to get rid of the rattles, trust me, it is a 180 difference for people inside the car, MUCH MUCH MUCH more solid than before.

How do you make your trunk not rattle even with 2 12's. BTW my two 12's are for sale.

i took apart my back seat and all the stuff back there, dynamat that and then i also did my trunk lid, it rattles a bit, but im not 100% done, i still need to do teh sides, and bottom of the trunk, once that is done it will be much better, trust me Dynamat is well worth the costs considering how much money you spend on speakers, amps, box, etc.

Non Bose Maximas also have the hole in the rear decklid for a subwoofer. Also Bose and non Bose headunits look the same other than on the tape player flapper it says BOSE- and on the rear decklid subwoofer grille is says BOSE. I have one 10" Kicker CompCVR DVC in a small enclousure, with a big monoblock Alpine amp pushing 500RMSx1 at 4Ohm it sounds really good. I still have enough room for 2 dead bodies- sorry I don't golf so I wouldnt know

dude, if your rattling is anything like mine was in my 2000 gle, check inside your trunk. There is a plastic piece that holds these two metal bars close together near the middle that connect on each end of the trunk lid. Get rid of that plastic piece, and also remove the "bose" grill, and make sure all the screws on the mounting plate and the sub itself are tight. Also, while the grill is off, remove all that cloth **** covering the sub. Mine sounds A LOT better after doing all that.

Also, I used to run the two kicker comp VR's in the kicker ported box, but got tired of not having trunk space for my rifles etc and decided to remove them, and instead just fixed the rattling from the trunk with the stock bose sub, as i mentioned above. I kept the amp and wiring in the car in case i changed my mind, and now i just put in a Kicker 8" sub into the stock bose location, using my 700 watt max 300 watt RMS bazooka amp (obviously set to a lower gain level for the itty bitty 8") and it sounds like crap as it is not a free air sub. Does anyone know if there is a custom enclosure for aftermarket subs mounted in the bose location being sold anywhere?
