To much oil may cause the oil to foam and the oil pump can't pump foam.

I use 4.5 quarts. I've used 5 quarts before and had no problems. I dont think you will have any problems.

4 and 1/4 with the filter. Why would you put in more than what is called for?

to much oil causes cavitation (forgot the exact term) which results in low oil pressure due to bubbles/foam in the oil.

5 qts might results in more oil being ingested through your intake tract through the crankcase breather area
