Shocking Exit!!!

So everytime I get out of our cloth interiored SE, I get shocked when I tough the door...EVERY TIME!!! Is there anything I can do to help prevent this? Even if I close the door on the vertical black plastic piece right behind the window I STILL get shocked!

Short of installing a leather interior, what can I do???

Happens to me as well. I close the door using the upper right corner of the window. I usually have to just get the shock over with. I lightly hit with an open hand on the C pilar or just above the gas tank. Sometime I forget...and the big blue flame shoots from my fingers.

I do ground myself before leaving...but it is the movement against the seat while getting out that creates the charge. And boy howdy do those shocks HURT sometimes! You know they are bad then you can see the shock flash blue between your finger and the door!!!

I get that and I have leather seats. Not as often as you do though.

i just usually touch it with my clothes first, like when i get out, i touch the door with my side and then close the door, works fine. or if you have long sleeves, just touch the door with those.

It's something with out maximas and our interior that allow this to happen. My passengers and myself always get shocked when getting out of my car. It's worst during the winter months. There has been a few threads about this in the past.

Grab a metal & plastic part of the door before touching the ground and you should be shock free.....

I'm shock free on both of my maxes since they have leather. But my sisters accord with cloth is one crazy shocking car. Just make sure you ground youself as you get out (touch the pillar, hold the roof, whatever).

And remember not to get in and out of your car if your filling up your gas tank!!!

I just shut the door by giving it a good nudge with my elbow. I dont get finger prints on my black paint by doing it that way either.

when you get out put your finger on your key then touch the key to the keyhole. You can see the shock but you dont feel it. Then you are good to go

Two ideas. First, check at the store for cans of anti static cling spray usually used to keep skirts from clinging to legs. Ocassionally spray lightly on seats. Helps reduce static build-up.

Also is the charge between you and the seats and the car frame or car frame to ground? One way to check is drive close to a grounded metal pole. Reach out through the window and touch without getting out. If you get a jolt it's a car to ground build-up. You coluld stop at auto parts store and see if they carry old fashioned grounding straps and attach them under the car to the frame.

Sometimes the charge is caused by some tires reducing the carbon in the tires. Carbon causes some grounding. Hondas had a problem a while ago that drove toll takers nuts. Shocked whenever they touched someone handing them change in newer Hondas. Started holding out short metal grounded poles for drivers to touch before they handed over the change.

This is a common problem... LOL... Sorry.

I have never had this happen in any of my cars. I was wonderin if any of you guys had common electrical mods, but then I hear about other cars having this problem. I pray that I never buy a car that does this. I bet it gets pretty anoying.

Maybe you could try the hyper grounding kit? SE with leather, no shocks here?

I always though it had to do with the the lack of humidy in the air. I know it alot more when I'm in Las Vegas (desert/dry)
