2000 Maxima

I have a New (to me) 2000 Maxima. Check engine light is on. How do I determine what code I'm getting, and how do I clear/reset this thing?
Any help is appreciated.

pull the code by hooking up an OBD2 diagnostic tester. i always suggest taking it autozone because they pull the codes for free. i have been told by some members that their autozones are charging for it but all the ones in my area, its still free. after you pull the code, get the repair done before worrying about reseting the light because most likely it will just cycle the code back out and light the cel if the repair has not been done.

You can leave the Negative terminal on your battery unhooked overnight. In the morning tap yuor brake pedal a couple of times to use any residual voltage if present. Then reconnect the neg terminal to the battery. The light should be off now, unless you really have a problem, then it will trigger the SES light again. At that point I would take it in to autozone and see if they can pull the code for you

havn't gotten the notorious ses light yet (in the 03) but I remember it was on so often in my old 00 that I was just gonna "mod" the light and get like a hyper white led for it or something cool like that lol,

yah unplug the neg terminal like skalberti said, then take it to the zone....also I know this is obvious but make SURE your gas cap is on nice and tight
