Poor acceleration above 1/2 throttle: Engine (MAF) problem? Tranny slipping?
Driving this afternoon on a 3 hr. trip it felt like there was very little power above 1/2 throttle. Below 1/2 gas everything acted fairly normal, but as I layed into the pedal more, it felt like possibly the tranny was slippping. Dont think it was an engine problem, such as a fuel pump issue or MAF becuase I could rev to redline w/o a problem, however the acceleration wasnt there. When I got home, I added about 2 ounces of tranny fluid as mine was ever so slightly low, and went for a test ride. Couldnt reproduce the problem in my 5 minutes test ride after adding the fluid, so maybe it was just low, but I'm also wondering what symptoms of a soon-to-fail tranny would be. THanks
PS. my old car, a camry, had a slipping tranny when the fluid went low once. The Max's tranny (or whatever it was) started out in gear just fine, but rather it seemed that it couldnt handle the power of above 1/2 throttle. Hoping its nothing major!

I dont hink our trannies cant handle the torque/power (02,03's they say they beefed it up for 02 but who knows), my wife said mine felt weird as well. I still cant drive after my accident so I dont know.

This is the first time mine has ever felt like its slipping or lacking power. I'm only at 29,000 miles and I just had a MAF replaced under warantee 2 weeks ago or so. I'll hafta do a lil experimenting tomorrow with the car, see if the problem persists after my addition of the tranny fluid.

If it was a slipping transmission, you would feel it. There is no other feeling like it..
What is happening is your car is 'bogging down' which is either something with the air system (sensors, filters), spark plugs or a freak electrical glitch.
Camrys are notorious for crappy torque convertors btw.

Today the car is running 100%... very strange. It hasnt run as hot as it did yesterday, seeing as I drove 3 hrs, however there is no lagging today. Dunno, I'm thinking it was low on tranny fluid cause thats the only thing I did to it yesterday (it was a bit low on the dip stick). Anyways, thanks for the advice

I have a 2k2 , i know exactly what you are talking about. I have 20K miles on it, I just recently changed the airfilter and it opend up the car.
I also had my car checked by bobs sharpe nissan out on route 7 CT, they said it was okay, charged me $89.99 to tell me i needed a wheel alignment, which i already knew i needed..
Also get your recalls done, transverse link recall and o2 sensor recall.
