Does the 3.5 come w/ a magnetic drain plug to help in trapping shavings in the pan? If not, does anyone know of someone that sells/makes these? I've had them in the past and think they're a decent idea.

 

The 5th Gens do not come with magnetic drain plugs. I recently purchased a "Super Plug". It is well made and I am just waiting to install it on my next oil change.

Interesting idea, but if it was so effective I'd think every manufacturer would use one. It's a cheap option...

On a tranny drain they make a lot of sense. Gears meshing and unmeshing so on my BMW bike I get a light film of metal after 20 K miles. On a motor if you get more than a few particles (enough to barely notice) you got some serious problems.
Still they have some value. Motors used to be all steel and the manufacturing process was not as good or as clean so on the older muscle cars it is more important.

 

Anytime I can take shavings (more likely tiny grains) of metal out of a moving piece of machinery, I figure it's a good thing. I'm not expecting any performance improvement or anything, but I have a tendency to keep cars for a while (265K and 273K on last 2 cars), I'm gonna try it.
