Don't bash me for not searching first. I did. There are just too many hits for this topic.

I was looking over my car today considering an OSCAI setup. An immediate question which comes to mind is: why not disconnect the "L" pipe (leading to the resonator) and seal the opening on the bottom of the air scoop?

Adding another hose, the flex tubing stuff, in the place of the resonator does allow for another source of air, but the air still gets funneled through the same airbox and the same volume.

Well.. that's basically the same set up 2001s have. Most reports are that 2001s have no L pipe but they are (I believe) receieving the same gains as us 2000 owners... perhaps the scoop is too restrictive?

Using tubing attached to the end of the scoop will give you access to cooler air. Plus, the tube will give you more of a ram-air effect that will pressurize the intake and air box giving better throttle response. At WOT you will have access to more air with the tube also.

The bottom line is . . .

The OSCAI/K&N combo works. One individual, for example, reported an average reduction in his quarter mile ET of 2/10ths of a second after installing the OSCAI/K&N combo. Not bad for a $65.00 mod.

Hey punkdork, I had a look recently at my max, thinking of making an OSCAI and effectively there is no L pipe. Did you had any bad comments or warranty issue concerning your OSCAI last time you went to your dealer ? ( this being the only reason why I dont have the OSCAI so far ) Do you feel any reel gain since you add it ?

Thanks & take care.

Ya that was me with the 2/10ths sec gain. I orginally was running 16.1's all night with a 2.45 60' then like 2 weeks later i went back with the oscai and with the same exact 60' ran 15.9 my best that night was actually 15.6! so you yes it works. i think y pipe is good for another 2/10ths as is noticed by zachs ride.

No negative comments or warranty issues but I really haven't had it in for service either since I've done the oscai. overall, the 2k1 maxes seem to not have the L or silencer so if you remove your tubing I doubt the mechanics would notice it at all.

It looks like the main restriction in the stock system is where the stock inlet goes over the radiator. The OSCAI bypasses this, should help.
