DNA21 got his muffler installed today and we took some pics afterwards. We also have two 5sec movies, but geocities won't allow outside links to the movies.

The install costs are below:
Magnaflow 14803 muffler = $168
Cut off OEM muffler and weld in Magnaflow = $50
Cut off resonator and crush pipe from B-pipe = $40
Sound, looks and performance = PRICELESS!

So all up it cost $258 to install the muffler and modify the B-pipe for more flow (check out the attached pics of the 'orrible crushed pipe after the resonator that Nissan added to accomodate a freaking hanger!). Beat's the hell out of paying $450 for just a frikkin' muffler alone!

The instal was done very professionally by Doug's Mufflers in Mt Clemens, MI, and afterwards we drove to my house and I sprayed all the new pipes and hangers with high-temp engine paint to ward of any chance of the new setup rusting.
Check out the pics:

Looks really nice... so how much of a gain do you feel? All butt dyno? Any low end losses or gains?

On the butt dyno and the Max on snow tires (I am planning to put my summer tires on this weekend) I noticed more power over the entire band, even the low end. I am waiting to get the y-pipe and intake installed to do a dyno run (kind of pricey if I do it after each mod).

BTW, anyone want to buy a 5th Gen. muffler with 30,000 miles on it?

NICE

Is this magnaflow muffler a straight through?
What about HKS, is that one straight through also?
I love the sound, but not sure if it's not gonna be too loud for sofisticated-looking, classy Maxima.
Any opinions appreciated.
thnx

Re: NICE

I want to hear how it sounds.
I want a mean growl when i drive my car.
I was going to go with stillen or a regular bolt on just for the sound.
You mind doing a sound clip of it?
thanx

No problem with the sound clip. I took two five second Mpeg's of the exhaust note. I am going to have OzziSVT post them for me latter today. One is at idle with a throttle blip to 2k. The other one is at 4500-6000 rpm. Please note that is without a y-pipe installed (that is next week).

Let me tell you it sounds sweet! The flow though Magnaflow and resonator removed really bring out the exhaust growl that the Max always had!

All Magnaflows are straight through, but as for the HKS I wouldn't know, and don't really care to tell you the truth.

Anyway here are the sound clips:

Well I did take the sound with a digital camera, so it isn't trully representative of the true sound of the exhaust.

I've got a digital camera that will do movies too... never used that feature though. Pretty impressive.

Flowmasters?

I had "2 chambered" Flowmasters on my SHO.
It was a tad loud, but had a noticable power difference.
I was wondering what a "3 chambered" Flowmaster might sound like on a Maxima. I was told you only hear the difference when you stomp on it.

For all of you wanting a deep sound...get a V8.
No matter what exhaust you get for V6, it will still sound raspy.
Someone please prove me wrong!

You should here my SVT contour with Supertapps on it. It sounds like a V8. Real deep and LOUD!

Let's hear it

Do you have some sound from the SVT?

It looks great. I'm not pro Ford, but I miss the 'ol SHO.
The mileage just got too high, and I couldn't pass up the Maxima.

I'll just say this, without a y-pipe, all the exhausts sound deep and nice. With the y-pipe it becomes rather loud and ricey which takes away from the image of the Maxima. I had the HKS muffler with a B-pipe, RT cat, and Y-pipe. I had that setup for 2 months before I got rid of the muffler. When I put the stock muffler back on, I was running a tad quicker and faster in the 1/4 mile under the same conditions and 60 foots. Right there tells me that the stock muffler does just fine.

max34...once i tape my exhaust you will be proven wrong...my exhaust honestly sounds like a v8 with an exhaust...i hated the sounds of honda exhausts...they are too high pitched for me so cattman asked me exactly what i wanted...they packed the muffler to give me a very deep and bassy tone...it is pretty loud but sounds amazing...i have never heard a v6 that sounds like this...it is loud, but very very bassy and deep and i am surprisingly not getting the least bit annoyed in the cabin...whenever i get to drive ferraris or porsches at work, i don't turn on the stereo because it is just amazing to listen to the engine...that is now what i like to do with my car...i get my new laptop soon so i'll take it outside and tape...or i'll figure out some other way
