Steering Wheel Controls

I recently had an aftermarket deck put in, Pioneer, and was told that the steering wheel controls on the left side, volume/track and the trip button, wouldn't work without a $150 piece and would need an infrared eye installed to relay the codes since there is no connection for the steering wheel control on aftermarket decks. The volume and track buttons I don't really care about cause I have a remote but I do want the functionality of the "Trip" button back. Does anyone know which wire is the trip button wire or what else can be done to resolve this situation. Thanks.

You have to ground the brown wire and you'll have you trip feature back. If you want back your all of your steering wheel controls you will need this:

Thanks man. When you say ground the brown wire, could you go more into depth on the subject or send me an email maybe. Is the brown wire the wire for the trip cpu? Also, do you not need a infrared or some eye in the car with the product from Crutchfield?

In order for the steering wheel controls to work with an aftermarket deck, you must trnsfer the electronic impulses into infared so that your pioneer deck can understand. Yes you must buy the PAC SWI-X controller and have it installed with the IR eye pointing at the pioneer radio. A good installer can hide the eye so no one can even notice it is there

Check my cardomain page unter AUDIO to see where I installed my infrared eye. I found the device somewhere on the net for $60 shipped. Do a Google search and you should be able to find a place cheaper than Crutchfield.

The brown wire that you ground to get your tripodometer back is what I"m pretty sure to be on the wire harness that your stock HU used that your Pioneer doesn't. Cut it, strip it, and ground it and everything will work once again.
