How loud? Y-pipe owners please step in
I finally had my Warpspeed y-pipe put on yesterday (2k1 5 spd). To my surprise it was a bit louder inside the car than I thought it would be. I could barly notice a sound difference from the outside. Did any of you notice this when yours was put on? Everything that I could find on the org said that it was a little louder than stock. I dont have any other mods to the engine other than a K&N drop in filter.
I also get the drooning sound when at about 3k rpm (where I spend most of the time when on the highways. Is this normal? I can't help but think that I might have a leak or that the pipe is too tight...hitting???
Any thoughts?

Is it really THAT loud? I just have a subtle growl and I love it!
The only thing that is a little loud at WOT is my GAB, and I actually expected that to be louder than it is.
Is there that much difference in insulation between the I30 and Max? I have driven both and did not notice too much of a difference.

I am new to modding and bought a K&N panel filter two months ago and a Budget Y-pipe a month ago. I am not into noise and don't want an intake of any facsimile. Do yourself a favor - don't wrap the flexible section of the Y-pipe because it retains moisture and will corrode and ruin the Y-pipe and get rid of the Warpspeed if you don't like the noise because from what I gather if you don't like noise you won't like the Warspeed Y-pipe. Having said all that I love my setup and I'm twice as old as the average person on this Board, so buy Budget and forget Cattman as well. And no I'm not on commision - I live in a suburb in Vancouver, the town that is hosting the 2010 Olympics and Budget is in Burlington, Ontario, some 3,000 miles away.
I just installed a Stillen Y pipe on my 2kse the other day and the noise level has only gone up a little bit. Not enough for anyone who has never been in the car to notice.
Maybe the Stillen is a bit quieter than the others because they use a mild steel instead of Stainless. The mild steel is thicker than the stainless steel types and can help keep noise levels down.
I now need a 2.25" mandrel B-pipe to go with the stock muffler and I think that the only way to get one of these is to have it custom made.

I got under the max this weekend and found that the muffler shop added a bracket to the stock b-pipe that attached it directly to the rear brace. They were trying to stop the pipe from hitting the front brace. It made it louder and I could feel the vibrations. I took it apart and now it sounds right. The pipe hitting the cross brace sucks, but I will work on that. Has anyone come up with a solution to the pipe hitting the first brace, other than removing?? I don't like to remove anything that helps tighten up the body.
Thanks again!
Thanks again!
Anyone have a picture of the warpspeed y-pipe installed on a 2k1? I want to make sure the hanger is on correctly. Love the added power and little extra sound now, but the pipe hitting bugs the **** out of me.
