noise from belt area help
k i got a 2000 maxima gle, and for about a month now im getting a noise from the belt area where the alternator is and the ac compressor belt is. the sound is coming like a shheeeeeeeeee noise from that area and i took it to the mechanic and he said its the belts, so i got both belts changed and the noiuse was still coming. NOW.......mind you that when he took off the first belt, which i believe is attached to the alternator, we started the car and the noise was gone. so now hes telling me its in the pully or ac compressor that inside the bearing was messed up. does anyone have had this problem or know what it might be? i dont trust my mechanic cuz he ****ing told me it was the 2 belts and i paid him to change it and it didnt work damn it ! please help.

Didn't work on mine. Its the alternator/AC belt adjuster pulley that is making noise. Mine went and started making noises at around 50K miles. I went to nissan and told them to change it straight up (I'm a mechanic- ex Nissan too). In the process the dumb ***** broke a piece of the timing chain cover off that holds that pulley to the block ! Hes like dude I'ma get U a new timing chain cover n install it under warranty. I'm like yeah sure, give me my car back. I drove around till the adjuster started to rattle- cause it was only held on 2 10mm bolts on the bottom of the bracket, and the top 10mm wasn't attached to anything cause the piece on the engine was broken off. I didn't want no idiot removing my timing chain cover and then re-sealing it and having all kinds of major engine leaks ! I made my own bracket for the pulley so it stops rattleing against my engine- sounded like a nasty rod knock at lower RPMs. I now have a similar noise but with just the AC on, I'm leaning towards the compressor bearings that the pulley.
