Made a custom ebrake handle...

Not wanting to spend $$$ on the MOMO handle, and not finding anything I liked, I decided to kill some time this weekend and mess around.

went to the junkyard and pulled an ebrake handle assembly off a 5th gen...
wrapped it in plastic (heavy trash bag)
fiberglassed it (several layers)
sanded it several times to make it fit my hand perfectly (as you can see, its not perfectly round...has some indentations I sanded into it.

I took it to a local leather shop who said they would charge $50 to do a leather wrap on it. I said "f- u" and decided to try making my own...so $10 later had heavy tan thread, vinyl that looks like leather, and went to it....I did 2 layers so it has a "firm but soft" feel to it...my stitching is a bit "rookie" but this was really a test case....I plan to take the cover off, take it to a seamstress, and have a leather one made just like it...

Best part about it is that it fits perfectly over the oem ebrake handle and can be removed simply by giving a firm tug on it...

I need to make the opening for the boot a little wider so it slides up higher...next project!

While I was at it, I installed the 2k2 shifter console that I just got in the mail from DaveB....

Good innovation... but yeah, it looks like a ***** without the leather, and with the leather it looks like a S&M condom or something. BUt good job, I wish I could fabricate like that.
