First time posting and I like to say howdy to all the Maxima enthusiast.

Here goes: as the engine heats up, the intake, like Stillens, will be sucking in hot air and for cai conversions, it's the outside air, via the "tube". Besides cold air being better for the engine, any one knows if there is a difference in hp with regards to air temperatures going into the engine?

I'm currently working on a new and improved version of the cai. I'll probably do it this weekend and if it works, I'll post again to let all ya'll know....

All comments welcome....

i like regular intake better than cold air intake its more conventional. by the way with the placement of the cold air intake in the wheelwel, you get the hot heat coming off your tires! Its all preference.

A post from OzziSVT on why cold air gives you more power.

"The colder he air is the denser it is, and hense it has more of EVERYTHING in it. The oxygen is minial, the real benefit is from the enthalpy increase during the Carnot cycle (ICE cycle). The greater increase in temp during combustion, the more power you get. i.e going from say 32°F to 950°F will net more power than going from 50°F to 950°F. Also reduced intake temps limit enigne knock, and hence your ECU will advance the ignition timing more to increase power."

Welcome! You might want to look for punkdork's OSCAI instructions. It's similar to the CAI, but it won't cost as much and you can pick up the stuff from Home Depot.
