"BORE"out a maxima engine? Possible??

i was talking to a few guys with muscle cars an they had mentioned that if you Bore out an engine it would add a good amount of HP. Than i was wondering if we can do this to our maximas. Is it possible? Would it be beneficial? I dont know much about it so any opinions would be great

Thanx

People usually build up engines like that in race cars, or hevily modified street cars. That goes well beyond my scope, but i can imagine it costs a fortune, and probablly not worth it.

sure, anything is possible.

bore it out and you'll have to deal with custom pistons and other custom goodies to go along with your new cylinder sizes. Then you'll have to deal with fuel issues, timing, etc with the ECU

Increasing displacement is beneficial performance wise. But you can also turbocharge the engine to get the same type effect. And generally speaking it costs A LOT less.

Like someone else mentioned. As soon as you go boring things you then have the need for custom parts. A lot of the older style hot rods/ muscle cars didn't have to worry about computers either. You could punch (bore) a 350 out to a 390 by simply adding new parts, and some machine work. For modern day cars you could do the same. But you won't be going anywhere without a completely remapped ECU/Stand alone.

Boost is better

There are many other more beneficial things you can do besides trying to bore out a VQ30DE. Plus 1.0mm is only going to get you to 3052cc (+64cc). Hardly worth the effort and $1000+ expense for a few hp.

ok i see, i was just wondering if it would be even possible to do. but now i see that it would be better to just get a turbo or supercharger.

Thanx guys

You can bore more than 1 mm without cylinder walk. Custom pistons with higher compression could yeild at least a 20-25 percent increase. Most of the power coming from the compression bump.

with engins like the chevy 350 and ford 302, there are tons of pistons, heads and what not readily available on the aftermarket, not so with the vq

the chevy small block was in so many good damn cars, and people love to work on classics cars so the demand is higher. Look at the 350z guys. They already have like 5 different intake manifolds, at least 15-20 exhausts. 10+ bodykits, and not to mention everything else. It demand that get the manufacters asses rolling.
