how much mileage does it max out on?

hello everyone, i am in the market to buy a 2000 maxima but around 80k on it, for around 9500 is this a decent deal? and also i need to know how long this vq30 engine will last me, i know 80k is a bi tup there but i KNOW that the vq engines are built to last, so do u think i can squeeze another 80k if maintenance and such is well followed? thanx for any advice and help in advance guys. hopefully i will become a member of this forum sometime soon

OH wow, that engine will last you for a very very very very long time if you take care of it. You can probabaly squeen another 150-200k from that 3.0.. take care of it, dont redline it all the time, and it will last..

My '94 Max had 160K when I sold it. Ran like a dream.
The '90 i've still got is at 225K on the original tranny and it's still as smooth as butter.
Take care of ur Max and it will take care of you! =)

225k on original tranny??? I am utterly impressed, I never thought that'd be possible. Have you been using anti-slip transmission oil or something?

I don't know what the deal is with the 5 gen. People say never buy a car produced in the first year or especially an early one, but I haven't found this true about mine. My Max has pretty low miles for me to be able to take a stance, but my friend's 2k1 GLE didn't last all that much. True, he put 120k on it in 3 years with Mobil 1 every 3k, changed the tranny under warranty, but the car started falling apart so he traded it in.

Just bought my 00 SE with 80k on it. Runs great. Had to replace the MAF, and all coilpacks. But from everything I've read that's pretty much normal stuff.

It has a chain as far as I know. No timing belt.

If I decide to put 60k more on my Max I risk driving it for another 6 years

Nope, just taking good overall care of it over the years. I guess my family's been lucky.

Wow, you've been lucky indeed! Another thing is that with every generation the Maxima overall quality deteriorates, I hear nothing but praises about the 4th gen, while I'm even scared to peep in the 6th gen forum. Everyone bought a $30k car that turns out to be more problematic than my old '97 clunker. Too bad for Nissan..

A coworker of mine has a 1990 Maxima with over 300k on it and it still runs very good. The only rust he has was the drivers door which was repainted due to an accident. Very little rust though. Engine is amazingly silky smooth.
