Tranny Problem

I've had my car less then a month. When I purchased it I was given a very limited warranty so I need to diagnose the problem A.S.A.P. so I can get them to take care of it.

When accelerating I hear a loud whine from the transmission. The harder I accelerate the louder it gets. There's no noise on deceleration, or when the car is in neutral. My mechanic told me he thinks I need a new transmission. I just had the tranny serviced today. I was hoping that would remedy the problem. Please help!

Auto or manual? If you've got a manual transmission, it sounds like it could be the throwout bearing going bad.

Sorry the car is a 2000 Maxima SE 5 speed with 80k on the clock. With my other Nissans it was pretty easy to tell when the T/O bearing was going bad. You could put the car into neutral and let the clutch out. You would then be able to hear the t/o. Press in the clutch and the noise would stop.

The whine is very audible. It does it in every gear under acceleration.
