Please help! Big problems!
I have a 2000 Max Manual shifter! I just replaced the tranny and it cost me 2000$. Now the engine stalls when it hits temp. It stalls when the clutch is depressed coming to a stop and it also stalls when its just idling at a stop. It also smell like rotten eggs when I give it more than 50% throttle. The muffler is stock and it has dual outlet pipes like all maximas I have seen. But I only have exhaust comming out of one of the pipes. WTF!?! And now the SES light is on. I only run super in it and I dont drive this car hard at all. PLEASE HELP! SPENDING TO MUCH MONEY!! Any ideas would be helpfull!!
How many miles? How did you know it was your trans? Are the symptons the same as before the trans? Check the code (autozone), post the code here, then we can help assess the situation. Also who did the work a dealer?

1. stalling - sounds like the clutch is not adjusted correctly, so the clutch plate is not totally disengaging....take it back to the shop who did your tranny.
2. rotten eggs - this is most likely a bad O2 sensor (which could also cause stalling).....bad cat could cause the smell, but not the stalling.
3. the maxima muffler has a "flap" that stays closed at low rpms to keep backpressure in the exhaust system...this is why you feel exhaust out of only 1 pipe when the car is at idle. The "flap" opens up at higher rpms and then exhaust goes out both pipes.
4. SES light is due to whatever is wrong with #2...O2 sensor, cat, etc....
now calm down, get the code read at a local autozone or dealer, have no worries about the muffler, and fix what is broken.
THANKS GUYS! My MAX has 79,231 miles on her. My mechanic is probably the best ford mechanic in the area. Hes doing his best to learn about the MAX. The car sat for a month and the battery died. The SES light came on right before the tranny went and believe me it was the Tranny! The shaft blew right out and there was pieces all over. I drove the car yesterday for an hour and the SES light came on again. So I went home and was going to have him read the code this morning but alas the battery was dead again so the computer got wiped. Soon as I find a code I will post it. My guy concurs with you guys most likely a O2 sesor and when it malfunctions your air fuel get scerewed up and it stalls.
Thanks Again!
Thanks Again!
