Oil Consumption Problem - Getting New Engine!!!
Some of you may recall that a while back I posted regarding an oil consumption problem that I was having with my 2002 6spd Maxima. I now have approximately 95K km on the car. It is consuming about 1L of oil every 1800 km. It runs fine and all as far as I can tell. Nevertheless I have brought the car to the Nissan dealer. They have listened to all my observations and decided to follow up with a number of tests. Well only last week I heard back from the dealer and their tests support the fact that something is seriously wrong with some component in the powertrain. The good news though is that I am getting a “New Engine”, new converters, and anything else that goes along with the engine swap. The new engine is about $5K-$6K Cdn. The converter stuff is about $2K-$3K Cdn!!! They are now gathering up all the part they need and I’m just waiting for the phone call from the dealer. They have even agreed to provide me with a loaner for the two days they need to get the job done. Note too, that all this is being done at their expense. This almost sounds to good to be true, but I have to say Nissan is really take care of this problem for me. Have any other maxima.org members gone through something like this? Any comments you may have about warranty on the job and the new engine? Anything I should look out for? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
