I remember seeing Hamy and others paint the inside to be all red. I picked up the testors candy apple red translucent paint today but want to make sure I do it right...anyone have a link or writeup or advice? Thanks

 

Just make sure you take the tails off the car. Its crazy to think that some people try and do it with the lights on the car. Basically what you do is this: lay the lights flat on the ground and just spray through the bulb opening. Do light coats 15 minutes or so apart. It might take an hour to two...BUT if you rush it the paint will run and look like hell. Trust me I know. I went through 1 set just trying to get mine right.

I might try to smoke out my clear part of my rears on my 00...I was under the impression you spray the outside and clearcoat it, but from this post i'm getting that you can spray from the inside through the bulb opening??? Is that right, or is it time for me to call it a day...

 

Keep in mind your using 2K tails and I'm using 2K2 tails so a bit different, I think you can still do it with yours and just have all red with black trim on the outside but I woul ddouble check to make sure...

 

i think you are trying to paint your lights to make them like the 00 se. those have to be painted from outside.

 

Good luck with this! I've painted a set of clear/chrome aftermarket tails, and red/clear GLE tails. It turned out ~ok~ I need to do it on my stock tails though...

 

related: to all those people who want to do the 02-03 for 00-01 se swap...couldn't you just tint the otuside of your taillights like us GXE/GLErs?

I hope Hamy doesn't mind me using his pic...but simply getting rid of the amber and having it all a uniform color...I think this looks good and for some reason I originally liked the 2k tails more but the 2k2 tails grew on me more, I just want to get rid of the amber...

 

that looks nice. i like the clear 2k2+ lights and installed those. i will have to paint them ambers red...

was it difficult to paint the corners? painting through the little bulb home couldn't be easy>>>

Does anyone have a better or closer pic of these lights? I think they look sick and wouldn't mind doing that on my max, plus I haven't seen anyone around my part of town with them. Is the red nice and uniform, or can you tell that it is painted? Also, did you have to change out the bulbs? Thanks dudes.

 

The hue is a bit different but from 5 feet away its still pretty difficult to tell with a glance.

 

Hey wuts up guys, i was thinking of trying to do the same thing, just don't kno where to get the paint and everything or how to even do it. I just ordered a pair of those Cleear / Black Tail lights from Custom Max.com. I figured those tails would look better then the original 2k3's on my Titanium Edition. Hopefully the clear / black tails look good since i got 20% tint clear corners and all that, the only thing im worried about is if im goin to be pulled over all the time since there is no RED for the brake light like the OEM tails.

Any1 think there is a way to put the red lens from OEM tail to New black / chrome tails, or use the paint that every1 is talking about??? need some help in this area, kinda of a nub when it comes to doing things yourself and doing it the right way to make it cutom. Thanks!

good luck on it, i bought that paint like a year ago, i was gonna do it right after i bought the 2k3 tails, but i ended up just saying screw it, i didnt want to **** up my lights

 

It would be different with the 2k/2k1 SE tails because the blinker part is clear. on the 5.5's the candy apple red mixes well with the amber to match the top portion so that color won't apply with the 5.0 gen SE tails.
