Built in cell phone

Hi,
In my 2002 Nissan Maxima owners manual there is a blurb about built in cell phone kit or something like that...does anybody has this option? Can you describe it? What phone does it work with, where is it all wired, etc....
Thanks.

Yeah I've heard that before... mainly a sound system thing. There's also a blurb about it in my Alpine CDA-9813 headunit's manual... probably some external hardware adapter that connects through the Ai-NET interface. Never seen anyone with this in use though. Maybe it's popular elsewhere in the world?

I have seen this on many aftermarket headunits. There is a phone wire but all it does is sence +1v or 0. If its reading a postive reading, then it will MUTE the headunit, meaning when someone calls the radio will mute and then unmute when the call is over.

But I've never seen a cell work with a radio unless it's been a Merc, BMW and so forth

I had this in my old max when I had all my Alpine stuff in there. Worked pretty good.

I used to use my Pioneer P8250 interfaced with my Nokia CARK91-US..

It was awesome.. on incoming call, the pioneer would display the phone indicator, the ringer comes throught eh stereo speakers and amplifiers ... audio is throught he front speakers and a separate mike.

For the AI-NET. i knew a guy that had it in his 2k2.. It was AMAZING!!

I own a motorola v60 cell phone. I bought a car kit on ebay and a hirshmann antenna that adheres to the windshield. Because I have a stick and I get bad reception in some areas, the car kit works great!!

I would recommend it to anyone and it was easy to install.

If anyone wants details, I'd be glad to share.

I have a phone with speakerphone function, with the phone in the pass seat or even the cup holder I can talk normally and the other person will hear me just fine, and I hear them great- Its a Sanyo from Sprint- for all ya Sprint hatters. I use it all the time at work even when I'm under a car working and someone calls me.... I talk normally while I have the phone in my pocket right on my chest.

Purchase this kit if you own a v60 or v600. With the v600, a replacement cup is available from Motorola for $39.00. I mounted mine on the right side of the center console. The speaker is under the passenger side dash. The microphone is on the ttop of the driver's side pillar between the door and windsheild. I put the brain in the center console near the cars computer. I have experienced no problems from my car. I can easily grab my phone from the cradle. I have a hirshmann antenna placed on the windshield parallel to the passenger side tower. Installation took me a couple of hours but I was taking my time. This system uses very little electricity so tying it into another circuit was not a problem. I love it and I plan on installing another one in my next vehicle.
