Has anyone tried 2k to 2k2 bumper swap?

I want to upgrade to the 2k2+ bumper. Has anyone ever tried that? Will i have to get the mounts, clips etc?? Also will the 2k fogs fit in there?

Thanks!

No, but I'm thinking about it, too. I know someone has done it. There were a few issues, but it was doable. Any idea what the bumper costs unpainted? I can paint it myself.

fits uses all stock mounting points, foglamp openings different from 2k-1 to 2k2-3.
I got PIAA 959 clears w/ 6000K h3 hids.
Check da sig.

Fogot to mention headlamps for 2k-1 leave a large gap which can be filled w/ molding tape from any parts store.
Beyond that it gives the car a different look to an untrained eye. after my swap and projector foglamps, I got questions on which bumper, and is it STEALIN ?
I told em 2k2-3...

where did you get the grill from ? I really dig the way it looks. I need a new bumper cover for my 01 and been thinking of doing 02 headlights with the 02 bumper cover and a Stillen lip. Do you have a larger picture anywhere ?

why would you want to get 2k2 bumper if you could get a $tillen Aero lip for same price or even lower and make it look a bit better (IMO)? if you don't mind me asking

I have a Stillen Aero lip, reason I wanna 02 bumper is that the lower opening is much larger- more flow for my intercooler. All the body kits look like crap to me.

to each his own
some ppl like spending 3 g's on rims and kit and a 2000$ house of kolor paint shop

while others like a little bit of cf and a lip kit

to each his own

Yes sir, the HIDS fits perfectly on our 2k bumper AND 2k2-2k3 bumpers. BUT our headlights leave a gap on the 2k2-2k3 bumper.

I replaced my front bumper with an 02 front 1.5 years ago. If you look on my web page I have before and after pics. I have 02 lights, front bumper, fogs, rims, and side skirts.

I agree with you 100%. I know people love to change the look of their car; but many times people get aftermarket body kits and never paint them. For my pearl white car all kits look cream by contrast and stand out. I think the bumper swap is a good idea; I also plan to turbo my self....one day. All I need is 5 grand for the kit 2 years later . This woudl be a better mod for me while I'm N/A a body would track too much attention. This a less flashy alternative.

That does look good. Can I ask why you got rid of your stock 17"s in exchange for the 02-03 17"s? They're almost the same.

I replaced the bumper cover and front wheel well liners. Otherwise everything matched up great. I have the best private body shop guy that matched it all up. He said it was pretty much plug and play. No need to replace any brackets or retainers or anything.

I found a fellow org member selling some TIRES that I wanted. He had them mounted on 2k2 rims. I bought them together, then turned around and sold my 2k1 rims. Otherwise, the 2k1 SE rims were great too and I would have gladly stuck with them.

Never had the stock grille, the funny part was that I work for nissan, and I crashed into a tree behind where I work during a snow storm, and I needed a 2k-1 bumper, but we were out of stock, and we had a 2k2-3 bumper in stock.
I bought the grille tech grille since the stock grille w/that huge hamburger emblem looks crappy.

About the GAP...

Here I am again. Thanks to Condor9382 up there for telling me that the bumper swap was possible in the first place. According to Dave B, he was one of the pioneers. To those of you wondering what the GAP looks like if you put a 2k2 bumper cover and grille on a 2k1, look for pics on my cardomain page tomorrow. I will take several shots from really close to show the gap from several angles. As you can tell from the pics already there, the gap is not horrible unless you are 1.) A Maxima.org member or 2.) TOO @#$# CLOSE TO MY CAR!

More gap pics are up...

To those of you who are wondering, pics of the gap between the 2k1 headlights and 2k2 fender are up on my page. Go to Page 7.

discussing gaps, i'm getting angel eyses "fitted" for 2000-03. will these aftermarkets from ebay leave a gap/fit?
And what are some of the noticeable diff between the 00 and 02 bumpers? I swear i cant notice a diff.

Can't tell you anything about angel eyes, Rule, but the only real difference is that the 01 bumper is much rounder in front, while the 02 has a definite plane across the front. Also, the 02 grille is a separate piece (although 3 body shop guys I talked to thought they could cut out the 01 grille, leave the 01 bumper, and install an 02 grille if they worked with it for a while). In short, if you can't notice a difference yourself, then it's probably not worth doing this mod. Spend your money on an RSB FSTB combo or something instead.

Well due to an accident, my 00 front bumper needs to go. My body shop hasnt ordered but said the 00 bumper didn't have side markers!?? What? does anyone NOT have side markers?

Does anyone have that "very small" gap with angel eyes and the 02 bumper?

Fog lamps on 02 are larger? Will angel eye fogs fill or can i still use my 2000's?

and finally.. the grill, will it have to be swapped out?

ok front bumper. what about rear?

I've been looking around to see if removal/instal instructions for the rear bumper cover might've already been covered in a different post, but w/SEARCH outa comission have't found one.

My bumper seems to be cursed by the gods, and everything bad that has happened to my car has happened to that poor rear bumper!

I think nearly everybody with a 5th gen would gladly switch to a 5.5 Gen Grille which looks a million times better if they could keep the stock bumper cover. There aren't many great choices available as we all know bc we have to cut out our grille and the fact that our front is more rounded than the 5.5 Gen. Let us know if you find out more from the body shops about how much it might be to cut out the 5th gen grille and fabricate the 5.5 Gen grille in there...that would be great to have for exterior appearance altho the cost might not be worth it.

If I could of done it all over again I would of went with the 02-03 front bumper and Maxx tunning lip. But I like my setup now and plenty of room for an intercooler.
