Which Oil?
Well, seeing that I am going the Mobil 1 route after 10k miles I would have to agree. I think some of the other synthetics are pretty good too, but I've always heard that Mobil 1 is the way to go (and not just from TV commercials).

This has been discussed before.... Yes, you can go longer on synthetic oil (BMW claims to run for like 18000 or something without any problems). However, I don't believe that you can keep switching... I think that once you go synthetic, its best to stick with it.
That should be plenty of miles for synthetic. Yes synthetics last longer than dino oils. You should be able to switch between synthetic and dino but why would you?
As long as the synthetic is a REAL synthetic(ie.. Mobil 1, Amsoil, Redline), there's not alot of differences between them.

I've heard it's ok to start a car off with synthetic, but not to switch older cars over to synthetic after a lot of miles. This is because the molecules in the regular oils are larger than that of the synthetic, so the synthetic can get through any little gaps that the old oils may have not been able to. thus, exposing new leaks that were "plugged" by the molecules in the regular oil. I've heard that from a couple of people with high performance vehicles, but some of them owned American so they might be a little lower on the IQ meter than the rest of us.
the oil is not what is important. the filter is why we change oil. most filter will wear out after 3k and need to be changed. most oil (anything API and SAE certified) will outlast the filter, but is changed anyway because you have to drain it in order to get the filter off. As for brand names I would by the cheapest stuff possible, and heres why. ALL oil sold in the US is made in one of three plants. that means that Pennzoil is the same exact oil as brand X (as long as it has both SAE and API logos on it).
bottom line save money on oil and get a good filter and change it every 3k. also BIG tip DO NOT beat on(burnouts, races, etc) a new car until the engine has ran at low RPM's for 100 hours. if you do you run the risk of not machining out the cylinders and you might snag a ring on the cylinder wall... very bad engine go boom!
