99 misfire code p0300 & P0301 COIL RECALL?

I know this is the 5th Gen string, but I thought you guys may have some input on this as well....

Got a 99, with a repeating and intermittent P0300 & P0301 misfire code. After several trips to a local ( who I deem highly reliable) it's at the dealer. He wnted to change all 6 coils, I told him just do the #1 since that is the most frequent violator....and we'll see what happens. After doing some research on this forum and a few others, it appears that the 99's have a regular problem, and I've read from a few people that while a recall hasn't been issued, that Nissan is paying the fix for this problem in the cars that have the problem. Anybody have any experience with this???

99s, 00s and early build 01s do have coils with very high failure rates. under 3yr./36k, a few have had theirs replaced under that warranty. when out of that, most have had to fork over the loot for the coils. you are much better off replacing them yourself and it is very easy and much cheaper. you can get all 6 coils for around 300 shipped. there was/is a online petition to have this issue recognized as a recall but i am not aware of any progress.

I had the ignition coil problem on a '99 also. Definitely do not change all of the coils. The coils have an intermittent problem and it's generally one or two coils that are defective. I spent ~$125 on a code reader and figured out which coils were acting up and replaced only those two at ~ $55 a piece. Saved alot of money and got a code reader in the process.

Good Luck !
