My 2k2 jsut turned 2 years old, and has 25k miles. the front breaks are 90% gone according to the dealer? does anyone know if this is a normal time frame?

Mine went after about 20k. Depends on how hard you drive. There are a series of deserted and twisty roads about 10 minutes from here and those contributed the most to my pads quick demise. It was worth it though.

25k is a bit low, i drive my car hard and i got 35k on my oem brakes.

are your brake sensors making noise? if not there is chance that the dealer is tring to rip you off.

the dealer mentioned about the breaks back in April when I had my last service. they said I would be ok, but should get them done this time (august) I guess I just drive hard on them... I tend to follow too close and slam on the breaks. As long as some one out there had it at 20K, I don't feel too bad about it.

kryplex... i edited the title of this thread for you, but you are mis-spelling the word "breaks".

Breaks = something became broken
Brakes = things on your car that make it stop

35k? - wow!
I had to resurface front rotors after ~17k, and then once more after another ~17K. Third time - same $hit.

why don't you pull off the wheel and look at the pad...it is easy to see if you're near the end of pad life...

I agree the two posts above; listen for squeeking when applying the brakes, and if nothing else a quick inspection will tell you what kind of pad life is left. I have 29K miles and probably have at least another 10-15K before i'll need a brake job.
I don't beat my car but i don't always baby it either,
in my opinion the brakes on the 03 are satisfactory or above. kryplex: just curious what was the dealer wantin for a brake job anyway? 100$ an axle or more?
