Lowering a GLE on stock struts?

Ok, I'm going to take a shot in the dark and say the idea doesn't sound right. A lot of people have dropped their SEs without upgrading the struts even at 50k+ and it works just fine. So my question is, how different are the GLE ones? Are they good only for the softer GLE springs and could they handle a small drop (nothing more than 1-1.5")?

they should be fine if they are in good condition.
problem is that since its a 2000 you will probably have to replace them since they have alot of miles on them. if they arent bad now they will be soon.

Maxspeed and Illumina. Not too low. Just what youy want. Kind of expensive altogether but it's worth it. The ride is also ike stock.

ill advised. you can do it, but you'll end up springing for new struts down the line when the stockers blow. also if you're looking for some handling benefit as well as aesthetics, new shocks/struts are a must. i recommend illuminas [completely biased, but they do the job welll]

Just came back from the dealer. The guy said my struts are completely fine and still pretty bouncy, so I won't have any problems. He said that the bearings might get worn out before the struts themselves. So shoot, I'm going to do it. My stock struts are nowhere as stiff as the Illuminas, but I care more about the wheel gap than I'm **** about handling. Someone please find me a deal on Maxspeeds now...!

Maxspeed shouldn't even be called lowering springs....the ride is almost stock....I don't like it.

So you're going to get them with or without new struts?

Yes, a Maxspeed drop is exactly what I'm looking for. Not slammed to the ground and not potentially causing abortion over bumps/potholes.

To answer your question, from what I've read Maxspeeds are a good substitute for H&Rs, they just cost a lot less. And again, the drop will depend on the car itself too, it may not be as advertised or what you see on other people's cars.

^^ if that's the case i'd rather save 120 bux and go with maxspeeds over h/r's (with illuminas as shocks/struts)

And how much does wheel bearing cost to fix? I hear all kinds of numbers from $30 to 150 per wheel..
