What is the best color Max?
#1
Personally, I think the Sterling Mist is the best color Max. Not b/c I own one, but it just looks the best. Only if it has the black interior! Is it me or does the 4th gen. Sterling Mist look like a totally different color than the 5th gen. What do you think?

I can not tell a lie, I really wanted a black on black se but after awhile you can see swirls and scratches on the paint. I went through that with my 97 se. Everyday I noticed a new scratch and I parked about 2mi away from everybody and everything. Maybe my 6th gen. will be black again!

Some cars just look really good in black - and the max is one of them. Can you guess what i vote for??
But I do like the dark grey color (gray lustre?) and that way my second choice. Also agree with what others have said about the 20th AE Blue. Saw it in the show room when I bought my car, real sweet.

definately black....
i've always liked black cars, but if i knew that the paint would be of such poor quality on the fifth gen, then i MIGHT have changed my mind. the truth is that most of the chips in the paint can only be noticed at close range, so it doesn't bother me that much. i think that merlot is a really nice color, and tho i haven't seen any majestic blue max's out there (except pictures), i think its also a good color.

Gotta be...
Gray Lustre. The car was just built to be this color. At least with the AE body kit it was.
Don't get me wrong the Majestic Blue is gorgeous, but come guys...a bright blue car? It would get old after a few days.
Also, the Merlot is absolutely gorgeous, no debating it, but its just not the color the Maxima was built to be. On another car, it would be choice.
The Maxima was just not built to be a "color full" car. It should be dark gray (Gray Lustre) and you will love it every day you have it. Maxima designers hand painted the first 5th gen model in this color...and you can take that to the bank.

I initially wanted Sterling Mist...but, I kept seeing lots o' cars that were silver-ish in color. Actually, did you know VW charges an extra $500 to get a Jetta GLX in 'Silver Arrow Metallic'...????? I likes my Merlot w/black leather.
I've always liked 4th Gen's in Rosewood which I think are pretty rare. Same goes for 2000 Maximas in Mahogany Pearl. Both of those were only avail. with a tan interior though.

Black looks good on a 5th Gen especially on an SE. But after having a black car in the past I will NEVER own another black car if I have a choice. That black paint will eat up a lot of your weekends trying to maintain it.
If anything happened to my Maxima today (God forbid
) I would buy another Max only this time an SE in Sterling Mist.....with Grey interior. No sticky-hot leather please. If I would have looked at that color more closely that is what I would have bought in the first place.

SE AE Majestic Blue
i'd have to say that's the ultimate color that's totally not available to most of us...

... then again... Grey Lustre would be next on my list.
of course ALL this with BLACK interiors. nothing less.

I equally love Icelandic Pearl and Sterling Mist, but I'll give Sterling mist the nod because it hides dirt so well. I told my wife to go get it washed and the guy at the carwash asked her what is she there for?
Me being from Houston, dark colored and light colored cars get filthy quick!

Black is my favorite but needs to be wet sanded the 1st week of ownership, and then you must seal and glaze the finish monthly to keep it like GLASS. Dark colors rule...

Sterling Mist for me. I fell in love with all of those Maxima commercials and said " I got to have that car". The main reason though is LOW LOW maintenence. Black looks really nice, until your car is 6 months old, and scratchy, or a day after your car wash and it is dusty.

Best Max color
...is definitely black. I have a black 93 SE and when clean, it is awesome. But that car has led me to make a commitment to never own another. I want my car to always look good, and keeping the car clean is a nightmare.
Before I was blown away by the Merlot, my preference was for Sterling Mist...but I see Sterling Mist everywhere and it has become boring to me...kind of like the blue/green Altima's...everywhere.
I absolutley love the Merlot, and the AE trim really stands out on this car (i.e., bronzed lights...will be getting bronzed tinting soon). You don't see the color often, and everywhere I go it gets looks and compliments.
Bottom line, your hard pressed to find an ugly max color. However, as someone else pointed out, the Aztec Red just didn't work on the Max in my opinion. And that champagne green back in 89 was gawdawful...reason it was only available for a year, right?
Fun poll...

I bought it black on black on purpose in part b/c the tailights looked better to me. I prefer black leather over the other colors. The car looks awesome when clean and waxed. The paint has chipped some and some mother f@#$%^ keyed it. I spend more time cleaning it than any other car I've owned. Of the other choices the sterling mist color looks nice. I am not completely sure if I would buy black again, I might. It is reassuring to see so many of you chose black as the prefered color. It's a great car in any color.

Re: Best Max color
C'mom you guys didn't like the red w/ black leather? That was a hot setup. My 91' SE was red with chracoal leather and 35% tint and it was tighter than panty hose two sizes small. I think i am going to paint my car bronze like the C70 Volvo!
