Well I finally got the ZEX kit hooked up and it is awesome. I definitely recommend it to those that want a little extra to take out even more people at the races. It not only works good from a dead stop but accelerates very hard when going fast and then turning it on.

Also to answer the questions about ZEX that everyone had as to what makes it safer. Well it is true, it really is safer. It won't let you spray if your fuel pressure is too low. It won't let you spray if you are not at wide open throttle. These things are critical to running nitrous safely. All of the other kits on the market can do these same things for you, but not for the same price as ZEX. I also installed the ZEX spark plugs on my car and they work very well with and without the nitrous on. I am planning on some form of tranny work and then a larger fuel pump so that I can put a larger shot on my car.

I will let you know what it does when I do to the track this weekend!

Nice! Keep us updated on your runs.

BTW, you should really consider getting the valvebody recalibrated since auto trannies are so weak.

Hey Y2KevSE, may sound bizarre but what is exactly the valvebody recalibrated ? and who can do it ?

I am planning to get a S/C later this year for my auto max, since it is a fairly expensive mods, I want the car to be top notch and any idea on what should be done on auto tranny would be greatly appreciate.

Thanks

The VB recal. is a modification that increases the line pressure for your tranny. The increase line pressure will make your tranny shift harder/firmer and faster. This will keep tranny slippage minimal and will prolong the life of your tranny.

More power added to your car will mean more slipping. Usual bolt-ons will not greatly affect the tranny, but when you add major power mods, slipping will be noticed.

Since line pressure is increased, that means the tranny fluid will be hotter. Running hot tranny fluid will decrease the life of your tranny, but to compensate you will need a tranny cooler. You can use basically any cooler that'll fit on your car. Common coolers are Hayden 404, but some have used a large 405.

You can purchase a recalibrated VB from Don in Texas. Since he doesn't have any 5th gen VB cores, you'll have to pull the VB out and send it to him. Expect at least 4 days of down time for your car.

Hope this helps.

so don is still doing 5th gen vbs? i thought he stopped for awhile...how much does he charge if we supply the core? any chance someone can post instructions on how to take it out? i want to do dons vb mod sometime soon, but i probably won't be able to be out of service of my car for a week so i'll probably have to wait until i go out of town next...or if adam is going out of town or something he can give me his to use while i send mine in...so anyone know how much it is w/ us supplying the core?

nvmymax2, what shot of zex did you get? i'm highly considering adding nitrous sometime but so many people tell me not to...everyone says it is worth it to just save up for a supercharger...those of you w/ superchargers can leave comments on how much they like them...i know a s/c is probably better on a tranny, but they don't make one for an auto yet (i guess i could do a custom install like diedrick (sp?)

ye i am also interested in getting the extra boost in my auto

I also ideally would want a supercharger in my car but the cost is just too high for me to consider it in the near future... The nitrous just seems like its a great bang for the buck...

Ive heard mixed opinions about nitrous, some saying its ok for the engine and tranny and others saying its not...

How much did the WHOLE ZEX Nitrous system COST you to install? i mean for everything... the kit, the installation/labor, the extra little things that had to be done to get the system to work? please let me know because i would really like to get this pretty soon for the nice summer months we will have up ahead... please let me know

thanks a lot!

He stopped doing VB's until his web site is up. The regular price for them is $450. Maybe you should email him and ask him if he'll do it for you.

Prices and Opinions...

Well the actual price for the whole set up is as follows:

ZEX kit - $525.00
ZEX spark plugs - $30.00 (for all 6)
ZEX bottle pressure guage - $42.00
Bottle heater - $190.00
And the install - $150.00

Grand Total - $937.00

This for me is alot cheaper than a s/c. Yes the s/c is very nice but simply I just can't afford it. I plan on upgrading my fuel system so that I will be able to inject a larger shot of n2o. This is going to cost me somewhere around $200.00 installed.

Y2KevSE: I plan on emailing Don immediately for his assistance on the Valvebody. Also, quesion for you kev, will Don let me drive to him and wait while he does it. That would be easier for me. I know it sounds crazy, but if you knew some of the tranny mechanics in this town, you would go to don too.

MrBurner: I am presently running the 55 shot, but plan once I get the VB and fuel pump going up to the 65 or 75.

I don't know if Don will or will not agree to that. BTW, he's in Texas so I hope you are too. Email him and see if he'll agree. Good luck!
