Need Help With Brakes
Hey guys, I've been having troubles with my rear brakes on my 2000 SE . Had the pads replaced about 8 months ago and about 20k miles later had to replace them again after the rear brakes started making a grinding noise like metal on metal. I suspected it was the warning track on the pads rubbing up on the rotors. Anyway i took the car into my local dealership and had them take a look at it. They said I needed new calipers and rotors, but i just replaced the pads. The rear brakes seem to continue to bind up and i'm worried about killing another pair of pads really fast again. The rotors seem to be ok, no scoring, but I'm thinking of replacing the calipers now and letting someone else i know do it for cheaper. Does anybody know where i can find OEM REAR brake calipers? I've only been able to find the fronts. Keep in mind i want to stay OEM. No performance brakes needed because the car is just a daily driver. Thanks in Advance!
I got rebuilt/exchange from my local NAPA store - pricey but that's because of the e-brake mechanism. They come with or without pads installed. I found the solution to excess rear wear was that the handbrake cable was adjusted too tight from the factory - it's important that the actuating levers on the calipers return to their stops when the e-brake is released.
Rebuilt rear calipers at Advance Auto were ~$70-80/piece... I swapped one out this past winter while diagnosing a stuck parking brake issue. There's a core charge involved as well.
