Ebrake & rear Caliper question

I am trying to find the best (within $$ reason) 4 wheel brake upgrade. Yeah, I could do a BBK upfront and leave the back, but in my HO that just looks like crap.

Since there isn't a 4 wheel BBK, I'm considering upgrading to better rotors and perhaps 4 piston calipers (if they make them).

Today someone told me that I will not be able to upgrade my rear calipers anyway because the ebrake is incorporated into a caliper. If this is true, has anyone delt with this, or does everyone just leave the back calipers alone and paint them to match?

I have already done a search of the .org and found nothing and I've been following all of the discussions about how size (diameter and thickness) really does matter.

It still doesn't fit the huge gap in my wheels. My only other options is to go with a 14" wheels

Thanks for the help.

Go to the General forums. Matt93SE (Mattblehm.com) just finished prototyping his rear BBK. Go check it out.

you dont need to upgrade the rears. get some a BABK for the fronts and call it a day. i was road racing in my 02 at nelson ledges with STOCK rotors but good pads in the front and the car was AWESOME. i will do a BABK on the fronts soon enough though. IMO you cant have enough brake!

There are shots of the front brake kit on my website, and some pics of my soon-to-be-released rear kit in this thread: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=326162

Mike Hill (kwd2kse)'s initial reivew of them is on post #24 and the semi-long-term review is on post #70. that will save you a lot of time sorting through the thread for the important information.

For price, you're looking at close to $2000 for everything you need for front and rear kits. You supply the rotors, calipers, brake pads, and fluid (I'll tell you which ones you need to buy), and then I'll supply all of the stuff underneath that- which are all the custom pieces needed- from caliper brackets to the rear parking brake to the custom stainless braided lines.

I think you'll agree that $2000 is a LOT cheaper than buying a Brembo set for the front and wishing there were something to match it on the rear.

btw since you may not know Matt and he doesn't have the big name like "Brembo" or whatever (at least not yet), I'll be the first on this thread to vouch for the quality of his products....I have the front semi-BBK that he made as well as the lower tie bar that he made (I think he is the ONLY "company" that makes one of these for the maxima, btw) and both are perfect in terms of fit, finish, durability (so far), performance, and overall quality......not to mention you will save alot of $$ compared to the "name" brands....

Thanks for the help so far.....

Is it true that the ebrake is incorporated into the rear caliper?
Does the new Blehm kit require a totally different ebrake for my '02?
Are the calipers dual piston?
Has anyone every experimented with a larger master cylinder perhaps like something off of the 350Z?
Would it possible, feasible or reasonable to buy larger slotted/drilled rotors, 4 piston calipers and a bigger MC and have the mounting hardware fabricated?
Is mounting the only issue to having a true 4 wheel BBK?

I know Matt has a 4 wheel BBK, i'm just looking at options.

Thanks,

Trex

The stock rear brake system incorporates the e-brake inside the rear caliper. Matt's setup I believe makes it similar to the 6th gen where the e-brake is implemented with a separate drum-based brake system inside the rotor hat (?), however it uses the stock ebrake cable I think.

I can also vouch for the quality of Matt's front BBK. With stock calipers but 6th gen rotors along with Axxis Metal Master pads, I have enjoyed very effective braking that gives me much more confidence in tight situations than the stock setup.

Matt's front BBK can use either stock calipers and pads, or 300ZX calipers and pads. I think the 300ZX calipers are either 2 or 4-piston.
I don't know anything about the rears... (and another curious question, if the rear calipers with your rear kit are non-stock, can they still fit OEM SE 17x7 wheels?)

YES.

YES. It becomes a drum type parking brake incorporated into the hub (from what i understand)

YES. 300zx rear two piston calipers

At this point, no. Its been argued that there isn't a need so far

Possible, yes. Feasible, no. You'll have to deal with offsets, different rotor and caliper testing, and hours of fabrication.

For the rears, yes.

Blehmco is the only company (probably forever) that has made a rear bbk for maximas
