Should I blame car's bad performance on MAF or old plugs?

I dont know what is causing such bad performance. It had been worse and worse. It is time to change the spark plugs, but how do I know the MAF is bad? I read all these threads on how the MAF is badly designed and gets old quickly on our cars, shoudl I just risk the money and buy the MAF or there is really a way to check how well the MAF is working ?

I know what you mean. I to am having a decrease in performance as of late. A 2k SE w/ 60 K. All these MAF threads make you so paranoid. You begin to swear you must have a bad one too.
I wish I could start to eliminate some of the common problems / questions.
