different springs in front/back?

hey guys i was wondering what the down sides/ problems there would be if i changed out my stock shocks to all around illuminas, and put tein spring ONLY in the front. the thing is i have 19s and subs in back and the drop is good enough. the 1.6in drop in front will make them even. so if i put tein/illumins in front and stock/illuminas in back will that make my ride all crazy and not work right?? anyone done this yet? thanks.

I have stock/eibach in the rear and GR2's/Tein in the front and i'm on 19's also and so far the ride is OK.
Some people say that's it's a little rough but i havent had any problems other then those complaints!!

he's asking about springs, not struts....
I wouln't suggest what you are thinking about...the Teins and the stock springs have significantly different spring rates and if you put Teins on the front and stock on the back, your handling will be very imbalanced and unsafe. Just put the same springs all around.....

From what I've been reading it sounds like the best option for you is going to be a coilover setup. This way you'll have the same suspension all around but you can adjust the height of the rear for your application or get a stiffer spring. I am also on the wall about this same decision because my rear end already sags about 1.5" because of a stereo as well and the only way to install any struts or coilovers is going to require removing a substantial amount of my stereo.

I ran Tein H-tech springs and Illuminas in the front ONLY for about 1-2 months. The rear suspension was completely stock. I thought I'd keep it that way for ride comfort and whatnot.

Well, yesterday I went ahead and installed the rear springs and illuminas. Why?

It's not because it was unsafe, or undriveable. But that understeer increased significantly. I couldn't take high speed "clover-leafs" as fast as I used to, and I had to slow down more in expectation of a sharp turn. It makes sense - make the front stiffer than the rear, increase understeer. Make the rear stiffer than the front, increase oversteer. As a result, I can now drive more closely to the way I used to with the rear lowered.

You might want to look into Tein H-Tech springs if you don't want to lower the rear. It's rated as a 1" drop in the rear - which I think is *less than most other aftermarket springs.

yeah, as MetaOrbit said:
stiffer front = increase in understeer
stiffer rear = increase in oversteer.

the generally-accepted "safest" setup is either balanced or "slight" understeer. You don't want much if any oversteer and definitely don't want heavy understeer!

coo, sounds good, thanks, i think im just going to put them all in....coilovers are too much for me right now, JIC would have been my choice, but that would be an extra 300-400...and i would rather spend that some place else....thanks again for the advice
