F..ck Nissan. If a company can get ignition system (heart of an engine) wrong, who cares what comes of this notice. Seriously if one can get basics wrong why will anyone care to buy a Nissan. I have replace 7 coils since buying my nissan in 2000. Not right, if the ignition is messed up everything downstream is messed up too like O2, pre-cats, cats, #x of $120 for diagnosis for P0420/P0430, perenial scare if we will fail emissions.. I don't need this nonsense headache... I need a reliable car even if drives like a old Caddy...
As I said earlier this is my last Nissan / Infinity. I am very happy with my other vehicle being a Highlander and will go with Lexus when I am up for a refresh.

Every maxima I had when the trans started to feel like it was slipping and it slammed into gears it turned out to the maf sensor, 3 maximas same prob all fixed after maf sensor replaced. Also a simple drain/fill on these trans makes them last for a good amount of time. The real recall should be on these POS maf sensors.

thats what i'm thinking as well. i really dont see a need to get pissed about coilpacks...other cars you have to do tune ups more often (including plug wires) but you can get away w/ coilpacks for a while.
like i said..i'd worry about the transmission more than anything

194,595 on the original 4AT in my first 5.5 gen and it was shifting great. In the 81k miles I drove the car, no coils failed either. As far as I could tell the MAF was the original too. Maybe I just lucked out because according to my VIN and 06/01 build date, I had the 91st 2002 Maxima to roll off the assembly line.
The only reason I replaced two coils (bought a used set a while back because of all the threads about coils going bad) when I changed my plugs on Saturday on my 6MT 5.5 gen was because #3 had a P0303 code that was flashing the SES light and the culprit seemed to always be either the plug or the coil. Even though the plugs looked to be the originals (150k miles) and I was 95% sure that was the cause of the misfire, I still changed it to be on the safe side. I changed #5 as a preventive measure since that spark plug tube had oil in it.
