If you are Costco member, you can get one with 5 year replacement warranty for 39.99. They are made by the same company that makes Optima batteries. According to consumer reports Costco batteris came out best. I am running one in my 97 Altima right now.

Costco - no nonsense warranty

I'm running a #8 size Kirkland Signature from Costco right now after my OEM died...just got the alternator replaced under 5 yr/100km warranty (that's a whole other story with the dealer!)

Anyway, not having any probs with it. Good price (1/2 price from OEM) and excellent warranty...through replacing my alternator I've already taken 1 battery back hassle free. I'm sure it was good but basically I wanted to be sure for the stealership to accurately diagnose the alternator problem.

My battery died 2 weeks ago (4.5 yrs old, 75K mis, not bad for an OE battery!). As a chemist, I researched battery construction, plate design, gel vs. liquid for the electrolyte, etc and came away convinced that Optima Red Top was the right choice for me (I don't have a heavy amperage stereo or other electronic stuff to require the deep cycle capability of the yellow top!). The cold cranking amps of 720 was good for the winter coming, too. I am convinced that the design features of the Optima are worthwhile over a standard sulphuric acid/plate design of a traditional battery, even if the traditional battery has a longer warrantee than the 36 mos for the Optima.

I agree, usually the battery specs will show 2 types of amps. The one to care about is the "cold cranking". Get the highest available in your battery size.

I recommend the Optima Red Top, Model #34R (34 is size class, R=reverse terminal). No more leaking acid!!!!!
