smoking headlight

I have seen so many cars with smoked headlights(mainly new fords/lincolns). I thought it was just because the housings were painted black and thats why they look so dark. So i painted my housings while installing DDEs and clear turns. After all that they still lack and smoked appearance. Does anyone know if there is a smoking procedure for the lense itself or any other info. I actually looked at a 05 lincoln ls when it was in my shop the other day and the lenses looked clear, but i am wondering if maybe they have a small amout of tint to them. Anyway
If anyone has any info please let me know
Thanks

you mean somthing like this

really easy to do...this is the kind of paint i used

take your headlights out...put them in the oven for about 10 minutes at 210 degrees...or untill you can get then apart becuase the glue is stong...
then just tape of the sections you don't want painted...its pretty easy...

blkmax, i think he meant he already did paint in interior of the lights, and it STILL isnt as dark as the others. i have seen the LS lights, and they do look DARK. im sure its mainly because of a more professional, and higher quality process then tearing open the headlights and spraypainting. i doubt the lens themselves are tinted, but you COULD use a product called Nightshades, by VHT, and LIGHTLY coat the inside, or outside i guess, of the headlights. that will smoke them pretty nicely beyond what u would have now.

Maybe because are lights are rounded to the side and let more light in.....
Lincolns are a box that lets light in from the front only.
