modding vs buying new

Ive been thinking about getting a 5.5gen for along time now, and now that I have the money to I wanna get a truck. But Ive ran into a wrecked 01 5spd with black interior which ive always wanted and a 5spd which ive always wanted. I went there and spoke to them and they said that they will sell me the whole interior for $600 and everything I need for the conversion for 1500 excluding the axels bc they dont have them. And when I say the whole interior I mean it, the leather seats the carpet, steering wheel, I mean everything. I just wanna know If I am crazy or what? Do I really understand the work that I am about to involve my self in??

It really depends on what your goals are....this is my 0.02 cents....

If you keep modding yer current car, then your "sorta" forced to keep it longer because it builds sentimental value.....i mean come on....u completely changed the interior and swapped in a 5spd...thats a big jump.....so once u do that u can't let it go easily because u put alot of time and effort into it...but more importantly, u spent alot of money doing the conversion....

if u don't mind letting go of your current car in its current state (i am assuming stock?)......then its mostly for POWER......the 5.5 gen 6spd is a monster over a 5th gen auto.....the jump is HUGE....we're talking about 1.5 seconds or more if both cars raced in the 1/4th mile....

so basically wut i'm sayin is.....if your goal is to go show....then mod your current 5th gen because it is a nice car to add a body kit, paint, rims, and interior conversion.....but if yer into speed.....definitely invest that money for the interior conversion into a down payment for a 5.5 6spd.....you wont regret the power at all....even a bone stock 6spd is still VERY VERY fast....

But then I still owe about 9k on it and Ive ran 120k miles on it so I am going to be real up side down on trading it in. And then my credit aint where it was when I bought this car. Im gonna do alot of thinking and look around this weekend if I can find a 2k2 with black leather interior and lsd ill see, but how much are the 2k2 running for now fully loaded I havent looked in a while. And performance mods where comming after the 5- spd conv. I mean SC and some more

LMAO. You need to see some dynos to bring you back on earth.

6spd vs. 5spd Maximas has been a majorly discussed issue and a lot of people will argue which one is the more efficient/reliable and which one was made crappier...

All this is said with greatest respect to 6spd cars

to me modding is doing something new & different, something that will make your car stand out whether its performance or looks. To do something that will make your car look like another stock car, better save you a ton of $$$ because that is alot of work to get you to square 1.

Someone did a complete interior and 5 speed swap a few years back just like you're describing. It was a lot of work - all documented on his cardomain site.

To be honest, it's not a good investment at all - but niether are most mods. If you think you'd really enjoy the project, go for it.
