SES light... cat is bad
Ok, so my SES light came on again, wouldn't ya know it, EXACTLY 1 yr to the day that it happened previously (and simply had an ECU reprogram..same dealer). 9/9/03 and 9/9/04. Anyway, so i'm reading through all these threads about 02 sensors, and since i have an '01 max w/ 45k miles on it, for sure the dealer is gonna charge me through the nose. Ok, so i bring it to autozone, they give me a code of p0420 (defective cat) ... i'm thinking, no way, its an 02 sensor saying the cat is bad. Bring it to the dealer next day, cat is bad. ????????????????????? They are "nice guys" and give the diagnostic ($80) for free and will install the cat for free as well once it gets ordered. Is this a weird thing? am i the only one w/ a bad cat while everyone else has bad sensors? Why would my cat go bad at 45k? I have no loss in performance that I can tell, gas mileage is good, ???? thanks guys
