Trunk support rod broke. Need help!!!

I have a layer of Dynamatt on the lid . The weight is pretty substantial. But one of my support rods came off. On the mount that holds the bar, there is a little lip which holds the bar up. The little lip has bent down and no longer supports the pressure. Any ideas as to how I can fix it. It's driving me crazy and the lid weighs I swear about 40 lbs. I'd like to try and weld a little bar to hold it up but the body shop claims they can't do it. Please give me some suggestions to fix this PIA problem.

Have you thought about adding a smaller hydraulic type of shock like on hatchbacks? Just one suggestion. I would think that Nissan would have the replacement parts you'd need.

The little lip seems to be part of the rear deck. If you open the trunk lid and look directly below the glass under the rear deck you'll see the support rods. They are held in by a little bracket mounted to the bottom of the rear deck. I even went to Nissan and they didn't have a clue how to fix it. If you look under there you'll see what I'm talking about. the little lip on the left is the one that broke. I still have one rod hooked up but doesn't do a thing. I was even thinking about getting an acuator to automatically lift it. But I think it would be pretty expensive.

That sounds like a mess. With all the tension on those braces, I'm kinda surprised we don't hear more stories about these breaking. Good luck man. Maybe the body shop can fabricate something to cure the problem.

HAHAHA... this is the funniest thread... My support bar ALSO broke and it is ALSO bent, and the white plastic piece is broken.

I just use my broken support bar to hold up the trunk, GHETTO styles.

That's what I do also, but it's scary to think what would happen if it fell on me. It wouldn't be nice at all. It would be close to decapitation. Seriously that thing weighs near 50 lbs. I'm going to have to brain storm and figure something out.

Mine did fall on me . I was changing mine when I installed my spoiler. I was laying in the trunk on my back with my legs out of the trunk. I sprung one of the bars to remove it and the trunk came slamming down on my legs. Took me about an hour to walk that one off..

I would check a few body shops if they can cut a car in half and put the pieces back together I'm sure someone can weld /fabricate that back on.

That's exactly what I'm afraid of except Ihave 2 layers of Dynamatt adding even more weight along with the added weight of the spoiler. I think it should be able to take a weld. I'm going to try and have someone tack a little bar to hold the rod in place.

what would be best is if we could get a trunk like the IS300....they use hydralics like our hoods....it helps the vibration if you have a sound system, plus is keeps the trunk up....if someone where to make something like this, I would be one of the first to buy one.....im in the same deal as you.....one full layer of dynamat and a spoiler, my trunk can close by itself with just a half an inch gap, the weight is closes is by itself. lol.....let me know how it goes.
