Motor Mount Help Please!!!!
Hey
Went to the mechanic today. I thought my tranny was messing up since I felt a jump every time the gears switched. Well today I found out it was the mounts.
While breaking my mechanic pressed the gas hard in drive, the engine just jumped back, did it in reverse, engine jumped other way.
He said it was the mounts. Went to dealer, each mount is 200 bucks cause it has a sensor. Mechanic says to just change one which is by the radiator.
Any advice what I can do, change one mount for 250 is crazy!
Are mounts fixable?
Are there any AM mounts?
THANKS!

The dealer replaced mine under warranty at about 33K. 10K later the replacement is wasted. I'm pretty sure that wheel hop is the culprit, which I've run into at the dragstrip
Switching to stiffer struts has helped significantly with the wheel hop problem, but I haven't gotten around to replacing the mount. I'm also interested in aftermarket mounts.

Ok well I did some searching. Place racing makes motor bushings which fits into OEM mounts.
Ok, I got 1 really bad mount. Do I need to change it by getting another OEM one or can I order the place racing one?

DOes it need to be replaced?
Does the OEM have a sensor? Does the place racing one have one too?
Im confused

Just referenced the service manual. Both mounts have some kind of device that stiffens the mount at anything above idle. The mount takes input from the ECU, rather than the other way around, so I don't think the operation of the car would be affected. Anyone out there have experience with the racing mounts?

If they are the lower mounts, they can be replaced with no problem with the place racing one. I helped a buddy do that on his 2K3. Those do not have the sensor in place. The ones on the top are the ones that have the sensor I believe.
Again, the place racing ones can be purchased and installed fairly easily. THey are the full mount and completely replace the OEM one.
Energy suspension is supposed to be coming out with inserts that use the shell of the mount, but that is not an option currently.

I'm almost sure mine are busted... when I'm in stop'n'go traffic, in 1st and 2nd gear my car sometimes exhibits this repetitive "rocking", and I don't think it's the fuel cut issue (don't think I've had the fuel cut TSB done, but I do know what it is and what it feels like, and this isn't it)
I am thinking this oscillating "rocking" sensation I feel is probably the motor bouncing back and forth on the motor mounts. It goes away when I disengage the clutch or give it some gas. Very annoying in stop'n'go driving.
I remember reading back with the Energy Suspension motor mounts thread that Energy Suspension developed a polyurethane motor mount with some kind of ripples in it to reduce idle-speed vibration?
If so, that will be bad-@$$. I'm thinking of waiting for that to come out before I even touch the motor mounts.

I have place racing engine mounts in my Maxima, my stock mounts are like new. I did not have the "electronic" ones in my 5spd. Anyone who tells ya the mounts vibrate bad have never felt a 4 cylinder with solid motor mounts. Maxima still idles almost like stock even with the PR mounts.

is the bounce drastic or is it very subtle. Another way to ask is,would my wife (who notices nothing unless it is very, very noticible) feel it?
