everyone knows its stupid and dangerous, but curiosity usually get the best of us. i rarely take my max up past 80. it seems the older i get the slower i drive. when i first got my old sentra i did 110 a few times a week.

though for some reason if i dont look down at my speedo every so often i tend to cruise at 80 without realizing it.

135MPH speed limiter kicks in, with Apexi Rev/Speed meter I hit 155MPH on the speedo and the Consult scan tool said 149MPH, it was still pulling but I thought that 150MPH was good enough for me. Turning at 130+MPH is kinda scary while ya see cherries in the rear view mirror getting smaller and smaller.

125ish in the max in a train of about 10-15 maximas, some of who were going WAAAYYYY faster....

did 230 km/h (140~mph) in my 1988 Lancia Delta Integrale on the Italian Tangenziale back in '94...was very very unsafe....topped it out, thought I was going to die.
here's what it looked like (except it was much more of a beater than thesenice ones..)

oh by the way to all you guys who think the Mitsu Evo is the real deal, the original "Evo" rally car was the Lancia Delta Integrale Evoluzione (210 hp stock way back in 1990 was alot)....

Damn..thats insane to go that fast...I mean of gone 155 in my last car but that thing was made for speed, not to mention I almost s@#$ myself.... Maxima's arean't made for that speed. I would be afraid that something in the front end would blow or break, making me crash....

I think of that when I hit 90 or so. 125 or 90, tires blows and we hit a tree or a wall, we dead meat.

I have driven a 350Z at 120mph and it felt less comfortable at that speed than my car does.

I never had the chance to drive one...I surprised that it was an uncomfortable ride at that speed... When I did 155mph in my 91 Z it was pretty comfortable and I got to 155 in a heartbeat. IMO I feel that the 350Z has a better cockpit than mine did... The car kind of contours to your body, especially the seats...The car just makes you want to go fast. I'll have to take one out for myself..Now that I think about it,I just remembered that my car had a sport mode and a touring mode switch. In sport mode the suspension would tighten up,felt every little bump and in touring mode it was sooo smooth....Night and day...I think that had something to do with it...I don't think the new 350Z has that option...

I never said it was uncomfortable at that speed. I said it wasn't as comfortable as my car is at that speed. I am perfectly confortable in my car at it's speed limiter so long as the surrounding conditions are right (dry, straight and no other vehicles on the uhh.. test track ).

Comparing a TTZ to a 350Z is unfair. TTZ is better in so many ways, looks, speed, potential, and it was technologically advanced at the time. 350Z is as advanced as my neighbors 91 Ford Escort. When I had my 92 TTZ it would cruise at 150MPH same way as it would at 80MPH, and it was a blast to drive. Long live the VG- which was just phased out after 20 years of production.

Hit 140 before the limiter kicked in on my 2k1 GXE back in the day. I was on H-rated tires, I later realized and shouldn't have been going that fast, but nothing bad happened, thankfully.

And now that it's out of my system, I'll never do it again.

Its funny how many of your speedos are lying to ya sooo much. 130MPH is IT for a 3.0L Maxima, unless ya have a Aniversary 5spd or a 5spd SE with factory 17" wheels- these cars do not have a speed limiter, otherwise its 130MPH and no more, unless you get a Apexi Rev Speed meter that disables it.

So when Motor Trend tested a '95 SE 5 speed with a radar gun to 142mph they were lied to? And when my Garmin Street Pilot GPS recorded my '98 Maxima SE 5 speed at 140.7mph I was being lied to?

Many 6 speed A33s have speed limiters, including mine, at 240km/h (149mph) which maxes out a V rated tire.
I thought all 6 speed A33s were drag limited, not speed limited. If some are speed limited, what determines whether or not the car is limited? Is it based on trim level, etc?

As for the 157 MPH on the dyno, I'll get the dyno run loaded up in the DynoJet RunViewer and post an image online when I can.

Maybe Blackbird suspects a conspiracy by any speed measuring instrumentation.

I, on the other hand haver never busted over 100. That is in my new car 2000 se 5spd... it's quite difficult on the roads up here in new england when they fix a pothole with a speed bump. Now when i lived in WPB fl, on I95 (before all the const) and the b-line by MOROSO, my 97 3.5 rl was up over 120-125 ish! That was Stupid(and fun) but i was trying to concentrate on the road rather than inside my car!! had lights dimmed and such

I used to think so too. But mine certainly isn't drag limited. It goes to 149mph only (or what the ECU reads as 149). Big tires, small tires, 5th gear, 6th gear, on the street and on the dyno.

Prior rides:
'97 Maxima SE 5-speed w/y-pipe & a few more small mods: 142 indicated
'99 BMW 540 5-speed with a few Dinan mods and a 3:15 rear end: 161 on the speedo, 155 on the nose as they are governed at that speed.
'01 Max: just 120....I must be losing my cojones

150mph on an empty 5 lane highway @ 2a.m. I was running an early 90's vette. Much to my surprise i beat the snot out of him. Yes i know it's dangerous, but beating that vette was a high point in my life.

Cory,

Our 3.5L 6-speeds aren't goverened to 140, I don't know where you heard/read that, they are drag limited at about 145. The automatic models are governed to 130 (I think) but ours definately get up to 145 before they run out of steam. I've had mine up to 142 on a stretch of 69 highway between Louisburg and Stanley. It does get to 130 pretty quick, but after that it creeps up to 140+ pretty slow.

I have SLAMMED into my governor at 130mph MANY times, but keep in mind that it maybe takes me a half mile to do this... So, if I'm racing something fast on the interstate perhaps I hit my top speed quick.

stock 2k2 and 2k3 6 speeds's run out of steam at 145.

Yours gets up to 149 because you have done quite a few performance mods.

But many others have exceeded that speed when their cars were stock.
